Man and Mediator

“Who can understand his errors?  Cleanse Thou me… O LORD, my Strength, and my Redeemer” (Psalm 19:12,14).  “A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a Friend that sticketh closer than a brother” (Proverbs 18:24).  “For there is one God, and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time” (1 Timothy 2:5,6).

Our secret and our open errors
Are sins God ponders on our path.
How fearful are the coming terrors
For those unmindful of His wrath!

This outlook makes us realize
How great our need is for salvation!
We need a plan supremely wise
That rescues us from condemnation!

We need a way from our Creator
To reconcile God and man.
Praise God!  There is a Mediator!
His Gospel has declared His plan!

He came from heaven to defend
Our souls, and thus was sacrificed!
Behold the Word made flesh, our Friend,
Our Mediator, Jesus Christ!

The plan of God is marvelous
Whereby we may be reconciled:
Our Savior gave Himself for us
To ransom souls by sin defiled!

O Lord, we never could have dreamed
That such a plan could be in place
By which You freely have redeemed
And reconciled us with grace!

We thank You, Lord, for what You did
As Man in Your humility.
As Mediator now You bid
The sinner from Your wrath to flee.

As Man and Mediator, Lord,
We magnify You as our Savior
To show the lost Your great reward
For all who trust You as their Savior!
