Queen's Questions

“When the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon concerning the name of the LORD, she came to prove him with hard questions… and Solomon told her all her questions: there was not anything hid from the king, which he told her not… And she said to the king… behold, the half was not told me: thy wisdom and prosperity exceedeth the fame which I heard” (1 Kings 10:1-7).  “He that winneth souls is wise” (Proverbs 11:30).  “The queen of the south… came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here” (Matthew 12:42).

The queen of Sheba heard the news
Of wisdom found in Solomon.
She brought hard questions she would use,
And they were answered, every one.

Indeed, the wisdom far exceeded
The true report that she had heard.
She found the answers  that she needed,
Which were provided from God’s Word.

Should not we also be prepared
To answer questions that are hard?
The Gospel that we have declared
Has ample proof in this regard.

The Word of God exceeds the fame
Of what our finite minds take in,
Which magnifies our Savior’s name,
Who by Himself has purged our sin!

The Word of God enlightens eyes
When hearts will humbly seek the Lord,
And he that wins a soul is wise;
Eternal fruit is his reward.

The queen of Sheba from the south,
Then found the half had not been told.
She heard the answers from the mouth
Of Solomon with grace unfold.

Behold, a greater One is here
Than Solomon who answered well.
The soul that turns with godly fear
To Jesus Christ is saved from hell!

O Lord, we pray that more today
Will come with questions like that queen
To hear the wisdom You convey,
To trust in You, and on You lean.
