His Love, His Likeness

"Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of Thy wings... As for me, I will behold Thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with Thy likeness" (Psalm 17:8,15).  "By mercy and truth iniquity is purged" (Proverbs 16:6).  "The Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ" (2 Thessalonians 3:5).

We join our voice with David's cry
Ascending to the King of kings
To keep us guarded with His eye,
And hide our life beneath His wings!

How great the prospect is ahead
When we behold our Savior's face,
To then be with Him, as He said,
Where He prepares for a place!

Do not the treasures of this earth
In contrast to our Lord grow dim?
For who can calculate the worth
Of being changed to be like Him?

The cost, we know, was calculated
When grace and truth were satisfied:
The love of God was demonstrated
For us when Christ was crucified!

O Lord, direct our hearts in love
To see our treasure found in You,
And set our hearts on things above
Where we shall share Your likeness too!

Lord, thank You for Your great compassion
Upon the cross so clearly shown,
Redeeming those whom You will fashion
With love and likeness like Your own.

Lord, stir in us Your own desire;
Your likeness in us now extend
To show Your love is so much higher
Than we can ever comprehend.
