Bloody Battlefield

“The life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul” (Leviticus 17:11).  “O GOD the Lord, the Strength of my salvation, Thou hast covered my head in the day of battle” (Psalm 140:7).   “He keepeth the paths of judgment” (Proverbs 2:8).  “I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting Gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth” (Revelation 14:6).

There was a bloody battlefield
Which took the life of only One:
Yet by that One our souls are healed,
And all His foes were thus undone.

The battlefield was the cross,
Where precious blood for us was shed
Which saved us from eternal loss,
And covered our defenseless head.

Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ
Fulfilled our judgment on that path
When He for us was sacrificed
Upon the cross to bear our wrath.

His blood was shed to thus atone
For souls that He would die to win.
He fought that battle all alone
To take away our deadly sin!

Though angels sometimes will proclaim
The Gospel in the skies above,
It was for us our Savior came!
Should not we now declare His love?

Lord, thank You for the battle fought
Wherein Your life was then out-poured,
When by Your precious blood You bought
Our souls redeemed as Your reward.

O Lord, we thank You for salvation
Procured by precious blood You gave.
We go forth with the proclamation
That You, and You alone, can save!
