Mocking the Messengers

"They mocked the messengers of God, and despised His words, and misused His prophets, until the wrath of the Lord arose against His people, till there was no remedy" (2 Chronicles 36:16). "Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy" (Proverbs 6:15).

There is a remedy for sin,
A cure for all transgression,
If only sinners will begin
To turn with true confession.

This is why God sent His word
By messengers who came,
Yet they mocked the message heard,
Rewarding them with shame.

Still today the mockers spurn
The Gospel they despise.
The messengers are mocked in turn,
Disdained with lofty eyes.

There is at last no remedy
For those will not hear,
And therefore their calamity
Shall suddenly appear.

We live in days of apathy,
As if there's none Who sees us.
Yet still there is a remedy
For all who trust in Jesus.
