Precious Seed for Perishing Souls

"When the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon, she came… and she said… I believed not their words, until I came, and mine eyes had seen it" (2 Chronicles 9:1-6).  "He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him" (Psalm 126:6).  "Doth not wisdom cry?  And understanding put forth her voice?" (Proverbs 8:1).  "Be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you" (1 Peter 3:15). 

The queen of Sheba heard the fame

Of Solomon, whom God made wise,

And yet was doubtful till she came

And verified it with her eyes. 

The Gospel is the precious seed

Much greater than the splendor seen

And verified as true indeed

By Sheba's wise and searching queen. 

The Gospel of our gracious Savior

Has saved our souls from condemnation:   

Almighty God has shown His favor

Through Christ who purchased our salvation!

O Lord, this surely is the season

That precious seed should now be sown

To give the souls that perish reason

To trust in You, and You alone.
