Light the Lamps

"Cause the lamps to burn continually" (Leviticus 24:2).  "Thy vows are upon me, O God: I will render praises unto Thee.  For Thou hast delivered my soul from death: wilt not Thou deliver my feet from falling... before God in the light of the living?" (Psalm 56:12,13).  "A wicked man hardeneth his face: but as for the upright, He directeth his way" (Proverbs 21:29).  "God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble... Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He shall lift you up" (James 4:6-10). 

As tabernacle lamps would burn

With oil that should not run out,

So by God's Spirit we should learn

To shine as lamps dispelling doubt. 

The vows of Jesus Christ our Savior

That promise His sufficiency

Should be reflected in behavior

That shines His light continually.  

The lost, who in the darkness stumble,

Resist the Lord with hardened face,

But God has promised to the humble

That He will lift them up with grace. 

Lord, since You're calling us to live

As lamps that will reflect Your light,

We pray for grace that You will give

As we are humbled in Your sight.
