Heeding vs. Hardening

"Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron... offered strange fire before the LORD, which he commanded them not... and they died before the LORD" (Leviticus 10:1,2).  "Yet the LORD will command His lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night His song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life" (Psalm 42:8).  "Hearken unto Me now therefore, O ye children, and attend to the words of My mouth... go not astray" (Proverbs 7:24,25).  "Today if ye will hear His voice, harden not your hearts" (Hebrews 3:7,8).

The sons of Aaron went astray
When they decided they would change
The fire offered in God's way
To that which God declared was strange.

The Lord commands us with His love
To turn our hearts from what is wrong,
To set our hope on things above,
And give to us salvation's song.

How good it is to wisely heed
The words of God we should attend
By which the Lord shall meet our need
With blessings that He will extend.

We thank You, Lord, for Your command
And for Your patient pardoning
As we take heed and understand
The danger of our hardening.
