Marvelous Mistake

“The Stone which the builders refused is become the Head Stone of the corner.  This is the LORD'S doing; it is marvelous in our eyes” (Psalm 118:22,23).  “They have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?  So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.  But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world… But to Israel He saith, All day long I have stretched forth My hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people” (Romans 10:16-21).

Mistakes are made, some big, some small,
Since none of us have been perfected,
Yet one mistake exceeds them all:
That’s when the Lord has been rejected!

We see this marked by prophecy
When builders thought that they were wise.
Their great mistake that we can see
Is marvelous now in our eyes!

The Savior of the world came
And by His power was made known,
Yet He was scorned and put to shame,
Though He would be the Corner Stone.

How could they be so very wrong?
It wasn’t that they had not heard,
For God had called them all day long,
And sent His prophets with His Word.

The same mistake is made today,
Though God has made His Gospel clear
Which many still will not obey,
In spite of judgment drawing near.

Oh it is marvelous indeed
That many still refuse salvation!
In Christ is all the grace they need
To now escape their condemnation!

We marvel at this great mistake
In view of so much evidence!
With all eternity at stake,
They disregard the consequence!

We ponder this and stand amazed
At what God did to ransom us!
May Jesus Christ our Lord be praised
For mercies that are marvelous!

O Lord, we marvel at Your heart
So moved to rescue souls mistaken,
That promised You will not depart
And that we’ll never be forsaken!
