Beholding Behemoth

“Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee… He moveth his tail like a cedar… His bones are like bars of iron.  He is the chief of the ways of God: He that made him can make His sword to approach unto him” (Job 40:15-19).  “The God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly… Now to Him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel… be glory through Jesus Christ forever.  Amen” (Romans 16:20-27).

Behold now behemoth, which God made with man:
His tail is massive; his bones are like bars.
Now who can approach him?  The Lord surely can,
Who made (as a footnote) the planets and stars!

Beholding now Satan, the cherub God made,
We see him cast down for his pride and deceit.
Now who can defeat him?  Do not be afraid,
For he has been bruised beneath Christ’s wounded feet!

Beholding these creatures, we soon realize
That we are no match for such powerful foes,
But let us not fear for their power or size:
Since God is now for us, then who can oppose?

Since Christ has declared we shall have tribulation,
It shouldn’t surprise us that there shall be strife.
“But be of good cheer!” was our Lord’s exhortation
When He went before us and laid down His life.

Beholding behemoth, we know he is large,
But he is no match for our Savior and Lord!
Our confidence now is that Christ is in charge,
And we have been given His Word as our sword.

O Lord, we rejoice in Your wondrous protection:
The grave You defeated has thus been diminished!
You conquered our death and by Your resurrection
Declared that the work that now saves us is finished!

We praise You, O Lord, as we’re trusting in You,
For even the power of death holds no harm!
Beholding behemoth, now what can he do?
We rest in the shadow of Your saving arm!
