Marveling at Melchisedec

"Jesus [is] made an High Priest forever after the order of Melchisedec. For this Melchisedec, King of Salem, priest of the most high God... first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace... made like unto the Son of God, abideth a priest continually. Now consider how great this man was" (Hebrews 6:20,7:1-4).

Consider Melchisedec's marvelous name,
Which means "King of righteousness".
How fitting a portrait of Jesus who came
In sinless perfection to bless.

Consider the greatness as well of this King
Of Salem, which is "King of peace",
So Christ for the ransom for our peace would bring
Himself to procure our release!

Mercy and truth in our Savior have met;
His peace and His righteousness kissed.
Deep in Melchisedec these themes are set,
And throughout the Scriptures exist!
