The Talk that Ties

"And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul" (1 Samuel 18:1). "Thy Father's commandment.... shall talk with thee" (Proverbs 6:20,21). "Today if ye will hear His voice, harden not your hearts" (Hebrews 4:7).

When David's battle had been won
And he had talked with Saul,
His heart was knit to Jonathan,
Who saw and heard it all.

And so it is with us as well
When we have heard God's voice,
Who saved us from eternal hell,
Our hearts in Him rejoice!

Our Savior talks with us today
To knit our hearts with His.
We ought to hear what He will say,
Who tells it like it is.

He tells us we were lost in sin
Till we were rescued thus,
And that He died that He might win
And knit His heart to us.

Since Your speech, O Lord, will soften
And knit our hearts to You,
May we therefore hear You often,
Reviving us anew!
