Mercy Measured

“As for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive” (Genesis 50:20).  “He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.  For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is His mercy toward them that fear him.  As far as the east is from the west, so far hath He removed our transgressions from us” (Psalm 103:10-12).

In Joseph we can see portrayed
The mercy of our Lord and Savior.
The hand of vengeance had been stayed
That Joseph might bestow God’s favor.

The judgment that our Savior felt
Was for the souls His mercy wins.
Be sure of this:  He has not dealt
With us according to our sins!

We cannot fully comprehend
The mercy God bestows on us!
Its height and length are without end;
Its measurement is glorious!

As high as heaven is above
This tiny dot called planet earth,
The largeness of our Savior’s love
Exceeds its comprehended worth!

As far as east is from the west
Which never ends when it begins,
We find in Christ our endless rest
As mercy thus removes our sins.

O Lord, we see Your mercy measured
Is infinite in each dimension,
Yet by this standard we were treasured,
So far beyond our comprehension!

In view of what You’ve shown us, Lord,
As we behold Your great salvation,
Your mercy measured thus explored
Has filled our hearts with adoration!

Since You have made our hearts aware
Of endless mercy that You gave,
Lord, send us forth to now declare
That You, and You alone, can save.
