Factual Faith

“If a wise man contendeth with a foolish man, whether he rage or laugh, there is no rest” (Proverbs 29:9).  “Pray for us, that… we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith” (2 Thessalonians 3:1,2).

Though wisdom has perfectly pleaded her case
And faith has received all the evidence needed,
Alas, many still are refusing God’s grace
Because His persuasion, in fact, is unheeded.

The fool disregards the abundance of facts;
He turns a deaf ear to the clearest of reason.
He will not consider the Lord’s mighty acts
Or prophecies that were fulfilled in their season.

O Lord, we give thanks that the facts are not hidden:
How clearly You’ve spoken on history’s page!
So may we persuade and invite those You’ve bidden
To come to a factual faith in this age.
