Woeful Wandering

Read:  Psalm 56 / Proverbs 19 / Zechariah 5 / Mark 6

Psalm 56:8 Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book?

Proverbs 19:23 The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied… not be visited with evil.

Zechariah 5:5 The angel that talked with me… said unto me, Lift up now thine eyes, and see what is this that goeth forth.

Mark 6:50 For they all saw him, and… immediately he talked with them, and saith… Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid.

His book records our wandering;

His bottle holds each woeful tear.

The Lord is surely pondering

Our ways when we forsake His fear.

We lift our eyes, as we are told,

To see our joyful restoration:

It is the Lord whom we behold,

Who cheers our hearts with His salvation.

Faithful Friendship

Read:  Psalm 55 / Proverbs 18 / Zechariah 4 / Mark 5

Psalm 55:22 Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

Proverbs 18:24 There is a Friend… closer than a brother.

Zechariah 4:6 This is the word of the LORD…  Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.

Mark 5:19 Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee.

We cast our burden on the Lord

Whose faithful Friendship has been proved.

He hears our prayer that is outpoured,

And with compassion, He is moved.

God’s Word declares (how good to hear it!)

It’s neither by our might nor power,

But rather by His Holy Spirit

We are triumphant every hour.

Heavenly Helper

Read:  Psalm 54 / Proverbs 17 / Zechariah 3 / Mark 4

Psalm 54:4 Behold, God is mine helper: the Lord is with them that uphold my soul.

Proverbs 17:17 A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

Zechariah 3:4 Take away the filthy garments from him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with change of raiment.

Mark 4:41 They feared… said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?

The Lord is my Heavenly Friend,

My Helper upholding my soul.

The life He was willing to spend

Has purchased my ransom in full.

I’m clothed in my Lord’s righteousness

Assured that He always is near,

Befriending me in my distress

And speaking His peace in my ear.

God is Grieved

Read:  Psalm 53 / Proverbs 16 / Zechariah 2 / Mark 3

Psalm 53:4 Have the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people as… bread: they have not called upon God.

Proverbs 16:16,20 How much better is it to get wisdom than gold!... He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the LORD, happy is he.

Zechariah 2:8 For thus saith the LORD of hosts… unto the nations… he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye.

Mark 3:5 He [Jesus]… looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts.

The workers of iniquity

Have touched the apple of God’s eye.

They walk as fools who don’t foresee

The judgment coming when they die.

Our God is grieved by sinners hardened

Who scorn the wisdom He would give,

Who will not choose to thus be pardoned

By trusting Christ, so they might live.

Welcome Word

Read:  Psalm 52 / Proverbs 15 / Zechariah 1 / Mark 2

Psalm 52:9 I will praise thee forever, because thou hast done it: and I will wait on thy name; for it is good before thy saints.

Proverbs 15:23 A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!

Zechariah 1:3 Therefore say thou unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Turn ye unto me, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will turn unto you, saith the LORD of hosts.

Mark 2:17 When Jesus heard it, he saith… They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

The work that saves us has been done

By Christ who purchased our salvation.

There is no other, no not one,

Who rescues us from condemnation!

How welcome is this word in season

That clears the guilty sinner’s sentence,

As we declare the joyful reason

To turn to Christ with true repentance!

Joy in Jesus

Read:  Psalm 51 / Proverbs 14 / Haggai 2 / Mark 1

Psalm 51:12,13 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit. Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.

Proverbs 14:25 A true witness delivereth souls: but a deceitful witness speaketh lies.

Haggai 2:4 Yet now be strong… saith the LORD, and work: for I am with you, saith the LORD of hosts.

Mark 1:17 And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.

When joy in Jesus is restored,

We are prepared to reach the lost

As we are following our Lord

Who died to pay salvation’s cost.

The Lord commands us to be strong

As we are working in His field,

For He is leading us along,

And He shall be our Strength and Shield.
