Common Ground of the Coming Grave

"Now the days of David drew nigh that he should die; and he charged Solomon his son, saying, I go the way of all the earth… Keep the charge of the LORD thy God, to walk in His ways" (1 Kings 2:1-3).  "The righteous shall be glad in the LORD, and shall trust in Him; and all the upright in heart shall glory" (Psalm 64:10).  "By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil" (Proverbs 16:6).  "If any man love God, the same is known of Him" (1 Corinthians 8:3).

That all men die is obvious;
The evidence is tangible,
But that is not the end of us,
In view of our eternal soul.

The day of death is just a door;
It is the way of all the earth.
Eternity yet holds in store
The endless joy of our new birth.

Alas, not all are born again,
Though by God's Spirit, they are urged.
We take the Gospel to all men
To show the grace by which we're purged.

Lord, though we share this common ground
With all who see their coming grave,
We're heralds of the joyful sound
Of grace and truth by which You save!
