Proclaiming His Purpose

"The LORD passed by before him and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth... and Moses made haste... and worshiped" (Exodus 34:5-8).  "Examine me, O LORD... for Thy lovingkindness is before mine eyes" (Psalm 26:2,3).  "Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?" (Proverbs 20:9).  "This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners" (1 Timothy 1:15).

When Moses heard the proclamation
Wherein the Lord proclaimed His name,
He hasted then with adoration,
And we should surely do the same.

The eyes of God have clearly seen
The sin that plagues the human race,
So none can claim his heart is clean
Unless it be by saving grace.

The faithful saying we have heard,
As God is searching us within,
Declares His purpose in His Word:
Christ came to save us from our sin!

O Lord, Your purpose is proclaimed
And proven by Your vacant grave!
We preach Your Gospel unashamed
To sinners You alone can  save.
