What Hope We Have!

Read:  Psalm 118 / Proverbs 14 / Job 19 /Matthew 14

Psalm 118:21,22 ~ I will praise thee: for thou hast heard me, and art become my salvation. The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner.

Proverbs 14:32 ~ The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous hath hope in his death.

Job 19:25,26 ~ I know that my Redeemer liveth... that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: and though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:

Matthew 14:27 ~ But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.

What hope we have, which was foreshown

In prophecies which could not fail,

Foretelling Christ the Corner Stone

Would be rejected, yet prevail!

This is our hope in life and death:

We know that our Redeemer lives!

He gives us each appointed breath

And cheers us with the peace He gives.

Rejoicing or Rejecting

Read:  Psalm 117 / Proverbs 13 / Job 18 /Matthew 13

Psalm 117:1,2 ~ O praise the LORD, all ye nations: praise him, all ye people. For his merciful kindness is great toward us: and the truth of the LORD endureth forever. Praise ye the LORD.

Proverbs 13:9 ~ The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

Job 18:18,21 ~ He shall be driven from light into darkness, and chased out of the world... this is... him that knoweth not God.

Matthew 13:16 ~ But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.

Eternal blessings from above

Extend to every tribe and nation.

We praise our Savior for His love,

Rejoicing in His great salvation.

The eyes are blessed that see the Lord,

And ears are blessed that hear His voice,

But darkness is the sad reward

Of those rejecting Him by choice.

Trouble with Trusting

Read:  Psalm 116 / Proverbs 12 / Job 17 /Matthew 12

Psalm 116:11 I said in my haste, All men are liars.

Proverbs 12:5 The thoughts of the righteous are right: but the counsels of the wicked are deceit.

Job 17:15 Where is now my hope?... who shall see it?

Matthew 12:21 And in his name shall the Gentiles trust.

The trouble with trusting in men

Is that there are many who lie.

So why should we trust them again?

And how shall we test their reply?

The truth of the Lord has been shown

By prophecies kept which were spoken.

In contrast, the liar is known

By promises made which are broken.

Place for Pleading

Read:  Psalm 115 / Proverbs 11 / Job 16 /Matthew 11

Psalm 115:1 ~ Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for thy mercy, and for thy truth's sake.

Proverbs 11:30 ~ The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.

Job 16:21,22 ~ O that one might plead for a man with God, as a man pleadeth for his neighbor!  When a few years are come, then I shall go the way whence I shall not return.

Matthew 11:28 ~ Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

There is a time and place for pleading

For heaven's intervening favor.

It's not OUR glory we are needing;

It’s time to glorify our Savior!

The need for praying now is clear

That we, by all means, may win some

As God is drawing sinners near

To heed our Savior's call to come!

Dominion and Diligence

Read:  Psalm 114 / Proverbs 10 / Job 15 /Matthew 10

Psalm 114:1,2,7 ~ When Israel went out of Egypt...  Judah was his sanctuary, and Israel his dominion... Tremble, thou earth, at the presence of the Lord.

Proverbs 10:5 ~ He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.

Job 15:8 ~ Hast thou heard the secret of God? and dost thou restrain wisdom to thyself?

Matthew 10:16 ~ I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents...harmless as doves.

The Lord our God shall have dominion

In those who will exalt His name.

They shall expose the false opinion

Of those who glory in their shame.

Awake, my soul, with diligence

To bring the truth that opens eyes!

Do not restrain the evidence

That God displays to make us wise.

Christ's Compassion

Read:  Psalm 113 / Proverbs 9 / Job 14 /Matthew 9

Psalm 113:5-7 ~ Who is like unto the LORD our God, who dwelleth on high, who humbleth himself to behold the things that are in heaven, and in the earth! He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill.

Proverbs 9:5 ~ Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled.

Job 14:15 ~ Thou shalt call, and I will answer thee: thou wilt have a desire to the work of thine hands.

Matthew 9:36 ~ But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.

There's no one else who can be found

Who can compare with Jesus Christ,

Whose flaming love could not be drowned

When He for us was sacrificed.

May Christ’s compassion for the lost

Displayed in His humiliation

Move us to now proclaim the cost

He paid to purchase our salvation.

Liberating Light

Read:  Psalm 112 / Proverbs 8 / Job 13 /Matthew 8

Psalm 112:4 ~ Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness: he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.

Proverbs 8:35 ~ For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favor of the LORD.

Job 13:15,16 ~ Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him... He also shall be my salvation.

Matthew 8:26 ~ And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.

Amid the darkness, rises light

That mocks the grave with liberation:

O Death, where is your boasted might?

O Grave, where is your celebration?

This liberating light displayed

Is found in Christ our risen Savior

Who tells us not to be afraid,

Since we are sheltered by His favor.

How Wise are His Works!

Read:  Psalm 111 / Proverbs 7 / Job 12 /Matthew 7

Psalm 111:1,2 ~ Praise ye the LORD. I will praise the LORD with my whole heart... The works of the LORD are great, sought out of all them that have pleasure therein.

Proverbs 7:1,3 ~ My son... keep my commandments, and live.

Job 12:7-9 ~ But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee: or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee: and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee. Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the LORD hath wrought this?

Matthew 7:24,29 ~ Whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock... He taught them... having authority.

The works of God are truly great

Which we behold in all creation.

The beasts, the birds, and fish relate

His wonders by their proclamation.

How awesome is God’s majesty!

How wise the works are of His hands!

We’re taught by His authority

As we obey what He commands.

First things First

Read:  Psalm 110 / Proverbs 6 / Job 11 /Matthew 6

Psalm 110:3 ~ Thy people shall be willing... He shall drink of the brook in the way: therefore shall he lift up the head.

Proverbs 6:20-22 ~ My son, keep thy father's commandment... When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.

Job 11:18 ~ Thou shalt be secure, because there is hope... and thou shalt take thy rest in safety.

Matthew 6:33 ~ But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

A willing heart puts first things first

To follow God’s priorities.

If not for Christ, we would be cursed;

We wisely do what He shall please.

Let Christ be first in all our ways,

As Lord of lords and King of kings,

To seek His kingdom and His praise;

He adds the other needful things.

Shine to Show

Read:  Psalm 109 / Proverbs 5 / Job 10 /Matthew 5

Psalm 109:1 ~ Hold not thy peace, O God of my praise.

Proverbs 5:1 ~ My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding.

Job 10:12 ~ Thou hast granted me life and favor, and thy visitation hath preserved my spirit.

Matthew 5:16 ~ Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

My Savior does not hold His peace:

His counsel gives me understanding

With light that daily shall increase

As I obey what He's commanding.

Since He has granted life and favor,

I would not waste the time He gives,

But shine the light of Christ my Savior

To show I live because He lives.

Have my Heart

Read:  Psalm 108 / Proverbs 4 / Job 9 /Matthew 4

Psalm 108:1 ~ O God, my heart is fixed; I will sing and give praise, even with my glory.

Proverbs 4:23 ~ Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

Job 9:4 ~ He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who hath hardened himself against him, and hath prospered?

Matthew 4:10 ~ It is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

It's good for God to have my heart;

Let nothing hinder full surrender.

Let Jesus rule my inward part,

For He alone is my Defender.

Through Christ my Lord I have been pardoned,

And He defends me at His throne.

He keeps my heart from being hardened

To serve and worship Him alone.

Prepare to Praise

Read:  Psalm 107 / Proverbs 3 / Job 8 /Matthew 3

Psalm 107:8,43 Whoso is wise, and will observe these things, even they shall understand the lovingkindness of the LORD.

Proverbs 3:5,6 Trust in LORD with ALL thine heart... In ALL thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Job 8:19 Behold, this is the joy of his way.

Matthew 3:3 Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.

We shall be wiser in our ways

When our Redeemer is in view.

Let us prepare to give Him praise

And serve Him as we ought to do.

Prepare the way of Jesus Christ

Who rescued us from condemnation!

Declare that He was sacrificed

To freely purchase our salvation!

Gladly Glorify

Read:  Psalm 106 / Proverbs 2 / Job 7 /Matthew 2

Psalm 106:4,5 ~ Remember me, O LORD... visit me with thy salvation...  that I may rejoice in the gladness of thy nation.

Proverbs 2:20 ~ That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous.

Job 7:17 ~ What is man, that thou shouldest magnify him? and that thou shouldest set thine heart upon him?

Matthew 2:2,10 ~ Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star... and are come to worship him... When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.

We gladly glorify our King

With all who wisely praise His name.

We walk with those who also bring

The Gospel message we proclaim.

We worship as we count the cost

That heaven paid through Christ our Savior:

To ransom us when we were lost,

He gave His life to grant us favor!

Forcible Facts

Read:  Psalm 105 / Proverbs 1 / Job 6 /Matthew 1

Psalm 105:1-3 ~ O give thanks unto the LORD... talk ye of all his wondrous works. Glory ye in his holy name.

Proverbs 1:23 ~ Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.

Job 6:25 ~ How forcible are right words!

Matthew 1:21,23 ~ Thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins... and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

Give thanks to God for all He did

And talk of all His wondrous acts.

Let nothing of His works be hid;

How forcible are proven facts!

Give glory to our Savior's name!

His name is called Emmanuel,

For "God with us" through Jesus came

To save us from eternal hell.
