Protective Place

"Jonathan told David… take heed… and abide in a secret place, and hide thyself" (1 Samuel 19:2).  "Thy lovingkindness is before mine eyes… LORD, I have loved… the place where Thine honor dwelleth" (Psalm 26:3,8).  "Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither… The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the Holy is understanding" (Proverbs 9:4,10).  "There they preached the Gospel… Confirming the souls of the disciples… exhorting them to continue in the faith" (Acts 14:7,22).

There is a sweet, protective place
Where God has called us to abide,
As we have learned to seek the face
Of Christ our Lord, in whom we hide.

The flower fades, the grass shall wither;
Our hiding place is not therein.
Our Lord says, Come and "turn in hither"
And find a refuge from your sin!

We see where wisdom has begun:
The fear of God has thus sufficed
To hide us in His Holy One,
Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

Our souls' protective place is found
In You, Lord, by Your invitation
To hear and heed the joyful sound,
The Gospel of Your great salvation.
