Fatally Forgetting

"Beware that thou forget not the LORD thy God… and thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth.  But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is He that giveth thee power to get wealth… And it shall be, if thou do at all forget the LORD thy God… I testify against you this day that ye shall surely perish" (Deuteronomy 8:11-19).  "Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits… who redeemeth thy life from destruction" (Psalm 103:2-4).

The Lord has given to the nation
A crucial warning we should cherish:
Remember God and His salvation,
For otherwise we'll surely perish.

If we have said within our heart,
We have no need of God's defense,
And thereby from the Lord depart,
There is a fatal consequence.

The nations that will thus forget
The benefits of Christ our Savior
Shall surely in the end regret
That they refused His loving favor.

O Lord, as nations by seduction
Are fatally forgetting grace,
Redeem us from our own destruction
And turn our hearts to seek Your face.
