"Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased" (Psalm 4:7). "Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that mirth is heaviness" (Proverbs 14:13). "Jesus... for the joy that was set before Him, endured the cross" (Hebrews 12:2).
A gladness that exceeds the measure
Of this world's empty laughter,
And riches that exceed its treasure
Are mine forever after.
In Christ this gladness is assured,
Who gives joy to the full.
It was for joy that He endured
The cross to save my soul.
