Fixed on His Faithfulness

"O God, my heart is fixed; I will sing and give praise, even with my glory... Through God we shall do valiantly" (Psalm 108:1,13).  "Walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you" (Jeremiah 7:23).  "But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil" (2 Thessalonians 3:3).

My heart is fixed, for I can see
The faithfulness of God my Savior.
Through Him I shall do valiantly
As He extends to me His favor.

I'll sing to Him and give Him praise
For mercies more than I can tell.
When I am walking in His ways
Which He commands, it shall be well.

I know that trials yet exist
On the horizon of tomorrow,
But God is faithful in the midst
Of joy supreme or deepest sorrow.

I'm fixed, Lord, on Your faithfulness,
For there is nowhere else to stand!
I'm confident in nothing less
Than Your compassion and command.

Hurting by Healing

"The Word of the LORD is unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it...  They have healed also the hurt of the daughter of My people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace... Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein" (Jeremiah 6:10-16).  "They received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved" (2 Thessalonians 2:10).

Slyly hurting, slightly healing,
Deceit thus turns the lost away
From God's instruction and His dealing
With those who choose to go astray.

Deceivers speak, and do not cease
To mock the warnings from the Lord
By falsely saying there is peace
As wrath approaching is ignored.

The Gospel shows the lost the way
To flee from judgment for their sin,
But many with defiance say
That they refuse to walk therein.

O Lord, You are the great Physician
Who suffered that we might be healed.
As death declares our true condition,
We pray Your life will be revealed.

Lusting for Leanness

"They waited not for His counsel:  but lusted exceedingly in the wilderness... And He gave them their request; but sent leanness into their soul" (Psalm 106:13-15).  "Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil" (Proverbs 3:7).  "The prophets prophesy falsely... and My people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?" (Jeremiah 5:31).  " Wherefore also we pray always for you, that... the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you" (2 Thessalonians 1:11,12).

Upon the Lord we wisely wait
For counsel that we rightly trust.
There is a counsel we should hate
That flows selfish, sinful lust.

It is our wisdom to depart
From evil as we look to Christ.
It is not wise to trust our heart
As if our wisdom has sufficed.

We hear the counsel of the fools
Who teach the things they do not know
With godless teaching in our schools
By those who love to have it so.

O Lord, we lift our eyes and pray:
Come, search our hearts and take control,
Replacing falsehood in our way
That lusts for leanness in the soul.

Preserved People

"Make known His deeds among the people... He suffered no man to do them wrong" (Psalm 105:1,14).  "The LORD... is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.  He... preserveth the way of His saints" (Proverbs 2:6-8).  "I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Faithful is He that calleth you, who also will do it " (1 Thessalonians 5:23,24).

The Lord has made His power known
Among His people by His deeds,
Preserving all who are His own,
Providing all their daily needs.

Though evil is around us still,
The Lord preserves us all day long.
As we are led to do His will,
He shelters us from every wrong.

Our God is faithful to preserve
Our spirit, soul, and body too,
Providing us the grace to serve
With strength He daily will renew.

O Lord, we join the joyful ranks
Of people You preserve today
Who worship You, who give You thanks,
Who hear Your voice, and who obey.

Counsel of His Comfort

"I will sing unto the LORD as long as I live... My meditation of Him shall be sweet" (Ps 104:33,34).  "Whoso hearkeneth unto Me shall dwell safely" (Proverbs 1:33).  "Return, ye backsliding children, and I will heal your backslidings" (Jeremiah 3:22).  "The Lord Himself shall descend from heaven... so shall we ever be with the Lord.  Wherefore comfort one another with these words" (1 Thessalonians 4:16-18).

There is a song that God will give
With counsel that He will impart
That strengthens us so we may live
To serve the Lord with all our heart.

There is a meditation that is sweet
To those who think upon the Lord.
In Christ there is a safe retreat
Where wayward souls may be restored.

The comfort of our Savior heals
The broken heart He will restore
With endless joy that He reveals
When we are with Him evermore.

O Lord, we thank You for Your Word
Which in the darkness shines Your light.
The counsel of Your comfort heard
Restores our song throughout the night.
