Delight to Dine

Read:  Psalm 83 / Proverbs 15 / Genesis 14 / Luke 17

Psalm 83:18 ~ That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth.

Proverbs 15:11 ~ Hell and destruction are before the LORD: how much more, then, the hearts of the children of men?

Genesis 14:18 ~ And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God.

Luke 17:24,25 ~ For as the lightning… shineth unto the other part under heaven; so shall also the Son of man be in his day. But first must he suffer… and be rejected of this generation.

Let us exalt the great I Am,

Whose name, JEHOVAH, is most high,

Who has descended as the Lamb

To suffer for us and to die.

Melchizedek, God’s priest and king,

Brought forth to Abram bread and wine.

Let us delight to also bring

Our worship as with Christ we dine.

Eternal Grace vs. Earthly Gain

Read:  Psalm 82 / Proverbs 14 / Genesis 13 / Luke 16

Psalm 82:5 ~ They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course.

Proverbs 14:12 ~ There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

Genesis 13:12 ~ Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent toward Sodom.

Luke 16:31 ~ If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

The fool will neither choose to know,

Nor will he care to understand,

The way that God has said to go,

According to His wise command.

There is a way that may seem right

To those like Lot in Sodom’s plain,

But viewed through God’s eternal light,

They forfeit grace for earthly gain.

Satisfied and Saved

Read:  Psalm 81 / Proverbs 13 / Genesis 12 / Luke 15

Psalm 81:16 ~ He should have fed them also with the finest of the wheat: and with honey out of the rock should I have satisfied thee.

Proverbs 13:25 ~ The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want.

Genesis 12:3 ~ And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

Luke 15:17 ~ And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!

Our Savior would have satisfied

And saved those who had closed their hearts.

By choice, therefore, they are denied

The blessing Jesus Christ imparts.

The blessing came from Abram’s Seed:

Behold our Savior Jesus Christ!

He satisfied our deepest need

When He, for all, was sacrificed.

Give Place to God's Plan

Read:  Psalm 80 / Proverbs 12 / Genesis 11 / Luke 14

Psalm 80:17 ~ Let thy hand be upon the man of thy right hand, upon the son of man whom thou madest strong for thyself.

Proverbs 12:5 ~ The thoughts of the righteous are right: but the counsels of the wicked are deceit.

Genesis 11:4 ~ Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

Luke 14:9 ~ Give this man place; and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room.

The Lord became the Son of Man

That He might save us by His grace.

There surely is no wiser plan

Than giving Christ the highest place!

The builders of the Babel tower

Who planned to make themselves a name

Did not consider heaven’s power,

But God reproved them, to their shame.

Name of Nimrod

Read:  Psalm 79 / Proverbs 11 / Genesis 10 / Luke 13

Psalm 79:9 ~ Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of thy name: and deliver us, and purge away our sins, for thy name's sake.

Proverbs 11:30 ~ The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.

Genesis 10:8,10 ~ Nimrod… began to be a mighty one in the earth… And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel.

Luke 13:3 ~ I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

The name of Nimrod was renowned,

And yet it really didn’t matter.

Though he, in Babel, would be crowned,

His legacy, like chaff, would scatter.

Yet he is wise who wins a soul,

As an ambassador God sent.

Let us be mindful of this goal

And plead with sinners to repent.

We Wisely Work

Read:  Psalm 78 / Proverbs 10 / Genesis 9 / Luke 12

Psalm 78:4 ~ We will not hide… the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done.

Proverbs 10:5 ~ He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.

Genesis 9:1 ~ And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth.

Luke 12:35 ~ Let your loins be girded… your lights burning.

We will not hide our Savior’s praise,

But we will glorify His name.

We wisely work in harvest days,

Though some are sleeping, to their shame.

As Noah and his sons were blessed

To fill the earth with life again,

Let us awake, though others rest,

With fruitful labor among men.

True Types

Read:  Psalm 77 / Proverbs 9 / Genesis 8 / Luke 11

Psalm 77:11,12 ~ I will remember the works of the LORD… I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings.

Proverbs 9:10 ~ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

Genesis 8:18-20 ~ And Noah went forth… out of the ark. And Noah builded an altar unto the LORD.

Luke 11:30,32 ~ For as Jonah was a sign unto the Ninevites, so shall also the Son of man be… A greater than Jonah is here.

As we remember works of old

And meditate on what was done,

We see prophetic types foretold

Of our Redeemer, God the Son.

As Noah’s ark and Jonah bore

True types which were expounded later,

Each Scripture image we explore

Reflects our Savior, who is greater.

View the Vow

Read:  Psalm 76 / Proverbs 8 / Genesis 7 / Luke 10

Psalm 76:11 ~ Vow, and pay unto the LORD your God… Bring presents unto him that ought to be feared.

Proverbs 8:33-36 ~ Hear instruction… refuse it not… For whoso findeth me findeth life, and… favor of the LORD. But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul.

Genesis 7:5,18 ~ Noah did… all that the LORD commanded him… and the ark went upon the face of the waters.

Luke 10:42 ~ But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

I heard my Savior’s vow of love

Within the Scripture’s prophecy.

He vowed to leave His throne above

And give His life to rescue me.

I view my vow to Christ my Savior

As simply doing what I should,

And thus, I do myself the favor

Of thereby choosing what is good!

His Spirit Has Spoken

Read:  Psalm 75 / Proverbs 7 / Genesis 6 / Luke 9

Psalm 75:4,7 ~ I said unto the fools, Deal not foolishly: and to the wicked, Lift not up the horn… God is the Judge.

Proverbs 7:24 ~ Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye children, and attend to the words of my mouth.

Genesis 6:3 ~ And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh:

Luke 9:25 ~ For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?

The Lord has spoken to the fools

And to the wicked who have scorned.

It is the Lord, not man, who rules,

And He will judge those He has warned.

His Spirit will not always strive

With those who choose to go astray,

Yet He reproves those now alive

And speaks while it is called today.

What Enoch Was Enjoying

Read:  Psalm 74 / Proverbs 6 / Genesis 5 / Luke 8

Psalm 74:12 ~ For God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth.

Proverbs 6:20,22 ~ My son, keep thy father's commandment… When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.

Genesis 5:24 ~ And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.

Luke 8:39,40 ~ Return to thine own house, and shew how great things God hath done unto thee… when Jesus… returned, the people gladly received him: for they were all waiting for him.

My awesome God and King of old,

Who brought salvation to the earth,

Fulfilled His prophecies foretold

And gave to me a second birth.

As Enoch, who with God had walked,

Enjoying all the Lord would say,

My Lord with me has also talked

As He has led me all the way.

Christ vs. Cain

Read:  Psalm 73 / Proverbs 5 / Genesis 4 / Luke 7

Psalm 73:28 ~ It is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works.

Proverbs 5:21 ~ For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings.

Genesis 4:6-26 ~ And the LORD said unto Cain… If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door… And to Seth… also there was born a son… then began men to call upon the name of the LORD.

Luke 7:35 ~ But wisdom is justified of all her children.

How strange it is for sheep to wander

From Christ their Shepherd and their Savior!

Yet all their ways the Lord will ponder

And draw them back into His favor.

The way of Cain exemplified

A heart that will not turn from sin.

The Lord will judge the rebel’s pride,

But saves those who will let Him in.

Remembrance of His Redemption

Read:  Psalm 72 / Proverbs 4 / Genesis 3 / Luke 6

Psalm 72:18,19 ~ Blessed be the LORD… who only doeth wondrous things… blessed be his glorious name forever: and let the whole earth be filled with his glory; Amen, and Amen.

Proverbs 4:18 ~ But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.

Genesis 3:15 ~ And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Luke 6:5 ~ The Son of Man is Lord also of the Sabbath.

The Lord alone does wondrous things;

Let all the earth proclaim His glory!

Remembrance of His mercy brings

To light His great redemption’s story.

Yes, even Eden’s Garden scene,

So darkened then with condemnation,

Foresaw that Christ would intervene

And would be bruised for our salvation!

Prudent Prayer

Read:  Psalm 71 / Proverbs 3 / Genesis 2 / Luke 5

Psalm 71:14 ~ But I will hope continually, and will yet praise thee more and more.

Proverbs 3:34 ~ Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth grace unto the lowly.

Genesis 2:16-17 ~ Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil…  in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. ‘

Luke 5:10 ~ And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men.

The Lord has made our choices plain.

Though some choose what He will abhor

And scorn the grace that they could gain,

We’re called to praise Him more and more.

The choice in Eden brought despair

And robbed their souls of innocence,

But God still hears the prudent prayer

From every sinner who repents.

Wealth of His Word

Read:  Psalm 70 / Proverbs 2 / Genesis 1 / Luke 4

Psalm 70:5 ~ But I am poor and needy: make haste unto me, O God: thou art my help and my deliverer… make no tarrying.

Proverbs 2:3-5 ~ Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding… as for hid treasures… then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.

Genesis 1:3 ~ God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

Luke 4:4 ~ And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.

Because I know that I am poor,

I cry to God who meets my needs.

His Word gives wealth that I explore

With light whereby He safely leads.

The God whose Word brought forth creation

Now daily makes His wisdom known.

I need my Lord’s communication:

I cannot live by bread alone!

Borrowed Breath

Read:  Psalm 69 / Proverbs 1 / Malachi 4 / Luke 3

Psalm 69:30,32 ~ I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving... your heart shall live that seek God.

Proverbs 1:7 ~ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Malachi 4:2 ~ But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings.

Luke 3:6 ~ And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.

I’ll praise my Savior with a song

And magnify Him with thanksgiving.

The Lord has led me all year long;

I’ll walk with Him while I am living.

I’ll fear the Lord, the King of kings,

And seek Him with each borrowed breath,

For there is healing in His wings

With life that rescued me from death.
