Compared to Christ

Read:  Psalm 113 / Proverbs 21 / 2 Chron. 19 / Ephesians 5

Psalm 113:5,6 ~ Who is like unto the LORD our God, who dwelleth on high, who humbleth himself to behold the things that are in heaven, and in the earth!

Proverbs 21:30 ~ There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.

2 Chronicles 19:7 ~ Wherefore now let the fear of the LORD be upon you; take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with the LORD our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of gifts.

Ephesians 5:1 ~ Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children.

With whom shall we compare the Lord,

So high, and yet for us so humbled?

By wisdom Jesus is adored;

By foolishness the proud have stumbled.

The fear of God makes sinners wise

Who thereby turn to Christ our Savior

To follow Him with glad surprise

That He would die to grant them favor!

Reproof and Restoration

Read:  Psalm 112 / Proverbs 20 / 2 Chron. 18 / Ephesians 4

Psalm 112:1 ~ Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments.

Proverbs 20:8 ~ A king that sitteth in the throne of judgment scattereth away all evil with his eyes.

2 Chronicles 18:1 ~ Now Jehoshaphat had riches and honor in abundance, and joined affinity with Ahab.

Ephesians 4:1 ~ I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you… walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called.

Let God be feared instead of man;

He scatters evil with His eyes.

We need God’s purging and His plan,

Without which we cannot be wise.

Jehoshaphat’s unwise connection

With Ahab was a foolish choice,

But God’s reproof and His correction

Restored him to obey His voice.

Find the Fullness

Read:  Psalm 111 / Proverbs 19 / 2 Chron. 17 / Ephesians 3

Psalm 111:10 ~ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth forever.

Proverbs 19:23 ~ The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied… not be visited with evil.

2 Chronicles 17:4 ~ But [Jehoshaphat] sought to the LORD God of his father, and walked in his commandments.

Ephesians 3:19 ~ And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

The fear of God is the beginning

Of wisdom’s purifying path

That moves us to depart from sinning

Through grace that rescued us from wrath.

Like kings who wisely sought the Lord

To honor Him with their behavior,

Let us pursue that same reward

To find the fullness of our Savior.

Lord and Lamb

Read:  Psalm 110 / Proverbs 18 / 2 Chron. 16 / Ephesians 2

Psalm 110:1,4 ~ The LORD said unto my Lord … Thou art a Priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.

Proverbs 18:10 ~ The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe… and there is a Friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

2 Chronicles 16:9 ~ For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him.

Ephesians 2:13,14 ~ Now in Christ Jesus ye who… were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. For He is our Peace.

The Lord made His prophetic oath

Presenting Christ as LORD and LAMB.

Melchizedek portrayed them both

As King and Priest to Abraham.

The eyes of God run to and fro

To find those who will trust and fear

The Lamb of God whom He will show

In Christ our Lord who draws us near.

Faithful Friend

Read:  Psalm 109 / Proverbs 17 / 2 Chron. 15 / Ephesians 1

Psalm 109:28 ~ Let them curse, but bless thou: when they arise, let them be ashamed; but let thy servant rejoice.

Proverbs 17:17 ~ A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

2 Chronicles 15:7 ~ Be ye strong therefore, and let not your hands be weak: for your work shall be rewarded.

Ephesians 1:18,19 ~ Know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward.

Though foes may curse, the Lord has blessed,

And He is still my faithful Friend.

He gives to me His perfect rest,

No matter what my foes intend.

I would not let my hands be weak,

For God has called me in this hour

For such a time as this to speak

To show the greatness of His power.

Our Battle and Our Banner

Read:  Psalm 108 / Proverbs 16 / 2 Chron. 14 / Galatians 6

Psalm 108:12 ~ Give us help from trouble: for vain is the help of man.

Proverbs 16:7 ~ When a man's ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.

2 Chronicles 14:11 ~ Asa cried… Help us, O LORD… for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee.

Galatians 6:14 ~ But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.

How vain indeed is help from man

Against the multitude of foes.

We have no hope nor battle plan,

Unless the Lord before us goes.

Our weapon is the Gospel story

That rescues souls from endless loss.

We follow Christ, the Lord of glory,

Beneath the banner of His cross.

Help from Heaven

Read:  Psalm 107 / Proverbs 15 / 2 Chron. 13 / Galatians 5

Psalm 107:11,12 ~ Because they rebelled against the words of God, and contemned the counsel of the Most High: therefore he brought down their heart … and there was none to help.

Proverbs 15:33 ~ The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honor is humility.

2 Chronicles 13:18 ~ Thus the children of Israel were brought under at that time, and the children of Judah prevailed, because they relied upon the LORD God of their fathers.

Galatians 5:7,8 ~ Ye did run well; who did hinder you…? This persuasion cometh not of him that calleth you.

Because humanity rebelled,

The Lord brought down their heart with grief.

Because the truth had been expelled,

They found no help and no relief.

Yet when they on the Lord relied,

With help from heaven, they prevailed.

When God’s persuasion was denied,

Their best laid plans completely failed.

Wiser vs. Weaker

Read:  Psalm 106 / Proverbs 14 / 2 Chron. 12 / Galatians 4

Psalm 106:15 ~ And he gave them their request; but sent leanness into their soul.

Proverbs 14:1 ~ Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.

2 Chronicles 12:14 ~ And he did evil, because he prepared not his heart to seek the LORD.

Galatians 4:9 ~ After that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?

Sometimes the things that I request

May not be granted from God’s hand,

For God, who surely knows me best,

Has something wiser for me planned.

Let me prepare to be a seeker

Of God whose grace shall make me strong,

Forsaking things that make me weaker,

Assured that God is never wrong.

Christ Redeemed - Curse Removed

Read:  Psalm 105 / Proverbs 13 / 2 Chron. 11 / Galatians 3

Psalm 105:1,2 ~ O give thanks unto the LORD; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people. Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him: talk ye of all his wondrous works.

Proverbs 13:8 ~ The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke.

2 Chronicles 11:4 ~ Thus saith the LORD… this thing is done of me. And they obeyed the words of the LORD, and returned.

Galatians 3:13 ~ Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree.

Give thanks to God!  Make known His deeds!

Declare His works to save the lost!

The ransom price the sinner needs

Was paid at such an awful cost!

“This thing is done of Me,” God said,

A thing which no one could reverse.

Christ died and rose up from the dead,

And thereby He removed our curse.

Help for Heavy Hearts

Read:  Psalm 104 / Proverbs 12 / 2 Chron. 10 / Galatians 2

Psalm 104:33 ~ I will sing unto the LORD as long as I live: I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.

Proverbs 12:25 ~ Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad.

2 Chronicles 10:6 ~ King Rehoboam took counsel with the old men that had stood before Solomon his father… saying, What counsel give ye me to return answer to this people?

Galatians 2:20 ~ I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

To Christ our risen Lord we sing,

While to the heavy hearts we give

The help His Gospel truth will bring,

Since Jesus died that we might live.

Christ’s life and light dispel the gloom

Where death and darkness had oppressed

As we behold His empty tomb

And by His presence we are blessed.

Greater Glory

Read:  Psalm 103 / Proverbs 11 / 2 Chron. 9 / Galatians 1

Psalm 103:12 ~ As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.

Proverbs 11:4 ~ Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death.

2 Chronicles 9:6 ~ The one half of the greatness of thy wisdom was not told me: for thou exceedest the fame that I heard.

Galatians 1:4,5 ~ Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father: To whom be glory for ever and ever.

As far as east is from the west,

The Lord removed our sins from us.

Though we were cursed, we now are blessed;

Our Savior’s grace is marvelous!

The half has surely not been told

Of all His greatness yet unheard.

Eternal ages shall unfold

His greater glory, rest assured.

Blessed Boast

Read:  Psalm 102 / Proverbs 10 / 2 Chron. 8 / 2 Cor. 13

Psalm 102:27 ~ Thou art the same…thy years shall have no end.

Proverbs 10:22 ~ The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.

2 Chronicles 8:16 ~ Now all the work of Solomon was prepared unto the day of the foundation of the house of the LORD, and until it was finished. So the house of the LORD was perfected.

2 Corinthians 13:14 ~ The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.

Our Lord forever is the same,

And so, we confidently rest

In all His promises we claim

By which we are so richly blessed.

In Jesus Christ alone we boast,

Who finished all His work of grace,

Who drew us by His Holy Ghost,

And has prepared for us a place.

Purge us Perfectly

Read:  Psalm 101 / Proverbs 9 / 2 Chron. 7 / 2 Cor. 12

Psalm 101:2,3 ~ I will walk within my house with a perfect heart. I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes.

Proverbs 9:5 ~ Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled.

2 Chronicles 7:14 ~ If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

2 Corinthians 12:9 ~ He said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.

We need a deep examination

To purge our hearts and our behavior

Of things that now pollute our nation

And distance us from Christ our Savior.

Our Lord now bids us seek His face,

To humbly pray, and turn from sin.

The Lord will give sufficient grace

To purge us perfectly within.
