Beauty and the Brethren

Psalm 133:1 ~ Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!

Proverbs 3:34 ~ But He giveth grace unto the lowly.

Esther 1:22 ~ For he sent letters into all the king's provinces, into every province according to the writing thereof…  published according to the language of every people.

Hebrews 10:24-25 ~ And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

 

The pleasure of our unity

Is found in every time and place

Where we are gathering to see

The beauty of our King of grace.

 

Let us encourage, while we may,

Our brethren as we serve the Lord

In view of that approaching day

When Christ shall come with His reward.

Purged by His Presence

Psalm 132:8,14 ~ Arise, O LORD, into thy rest; thou, and the ark of thy strength…  This is my rest for ever: here will I dwell; for I have desired it.

Proverbs 2:20 ~ That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous.

Nehemiah 13:3 ~ Now it came to pass, when they had heard the law, that they separated from Israel all the mixed multitude.

Hebrews 9:14 ~ How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience… to serve the living God?

 

Let God arise to dwell in us,

According to His heart’s desire.

His presence is victorious;

There is no helper that is higher.

 

Let God examine us within

And thereby purge His resting place,

Removing every trace of sin

That we may serve Him by His grace.

Joy in Jerusalem

Psalm 131:1 ~ LORD, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me.

Proverbs 1:29,33 ~ For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD… But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.

Nehemiah 12:43 ~ God had made them rejoice with great joy… so that the joy of Jerusalem was heard even afar off.

Hebrews 8:10 ~ I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people.

 

The Lord has made His counsel clear;

He shows us things we did not know,

Imparting joy and holy fear

As living waters overflow. 

 

The Lord has filled our hearts with joy:

Jerusalem has seen Him rise! 

The enemy cannot destroy

The soul redeemed that never dies.

Intimate Intercession

Read:  Psalm 130 / Proverbs 28 / Nehemiah 11 / Hebrews 7

 

Psalm 130:4 ~ But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared.

Proverbs 28:14 ~ Happy is the man that feareth alway: but he that hardeneth his heart shall fall into mischief.

Nehemiah 11:2 ~ And the people blessed all the men, that willingly offered themselves to dwell at Jerusalem.

Hebrews 7:25 ~ Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

 

There is forgiveness with the Lord,

That we may fear Him all our days

As day by day, we are restored

To live a life that gives Him praise. 

 

How intimately Jesus gives

His grace that turns us from transgression

Because our Savior ever lives

To save us by His intercession!

Christ is in Control

Psalm 129:2,4 Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth: yet they have not prevailed against me… The LORD is righteous: he hath cut asunder the cords of the wicked.

Proverbs 27:11 My son, be wise, and make my heart glad, that I may answer him that reproacheth me. 

Nehemiah 10:39 We will not forsake the house of our God.

Hebrews 6:18,19 It was impossible for God to lie… which hope we have as an anchor of the soul.

 

Afflictions that ensnared my youth

Have not prevailed with their cords,

For God delivered me with truth;

What confidence this now affords!

 

I have an anchor for my soul: 

It is the Lord who cannot lie!

I know that Christ is in control;

I know He lives and cannot die.

Proof of the Power

Psalm 128:1 ~ Blessed is every one that feareth the LORD; that walketh in his ways.

Proverbs 26:11 ~ As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly.

Nehemiah 9:38 ~ Because of all this we make a sure covenant, and write it; and our princes, Levites, and priests, seal unto it.

Hebrews 5:12 ~ Ye ought to be teachers… and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.

 

The proof that someone fears the Lord

Is that he’s walking in His ways,

But fools refuse to be restored,

Returning to the path that strays. 

 

The power of God’s saving grace

Is seen in those who love our Savior. 

Beware!  If this is not the case,

It shall be shown by one’s behavior.

Heaven's Help

Psalm 127:1 ~ Except the LORD build the house, they labor in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.

Proverbs 25:28 ~ He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.

Nehemiah 8:10 ~ The joy of the LORD is your strength.

Hebrews 4:16 ~ Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

 

We have no power to succeed

In building or in battle plans,

Unless the Lord shall meet our need

With heaven’s help instead of man’s. 

 

The Lord shall rule to make us strong.

All other plans are doomed to fail. 

His joy shall lead our souls along,

And by His grace we shall prevail.

Today with Tears

Psalm 126:5 ~ They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.

Proverbs 24:27 ~ Prepare thy work without, and make it fit for thyself in the field; and afterwards build thine house.

Nehemiah 7:2 ~ I gave… Hanani… charge over Jerusalem: for he was a faithful man, and feared God above many.

Hebrews 3:13 ~ But exhort one another daily, while it is called Today; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

 

As long as it is called today,

We sow the Gospel seed with tears,

Obeying God without delay,

Lest days be lost, then weeks, then years! 

 

Let us prepare a good foundation

In every work that we begin

With godly fear and dedication,

Lest we be hardened yet by sin.

Wisely Work

Read:  Psalm 125 / Proverbs 23 / Nehemiah 6 / Hebrews 2

 

Psalm 125:1 ~ They that trust in the LORD shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth forever.

Proverbs 23:17,18 ~ Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long. For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.

Nehemiah 6:9 ~ For they all made us afraid, saying, Their hands shall be weakened from the work, that it be not done. Now therefore, O God, strengthen my hands.

Hebrews 2:9 ~ But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honor; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. 

 

We wisely trust what God has proved,

And thus, we have an expectation

That we, by grace, cannot be moved,

Since Christ is Lord of our salvation.

 

We wisely work as God commands

As long as He shall give us breath

To live with strengthened hearts and hands,

Since Christ for us has tasted death.

Go Forth with Godly Fear

Read:  Psalm 124 / Proverbs 22 / Nehemiah 5 / Hebrews 1

 

Psalm 124:7 ~ Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped.

Proverbs 22:12 ~ The eyes of the LORD preserve knowledge, and he overthroweth the words of the transgressor.

Nehemiah 5:9 ~ Also I said, It is not good that ye do: ought ye not to walk in the fear of our God because of the reproach of the heathen our enemies?

Hebrews 1:1,2 ~ God who… spake in time past… by the prophets, hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son.

 

Our souls were trapped within the snare,

For sin had held us with its cords,

But Christ redeemed us from despair;

We have escaped!  We are the Lord’s! 

 

Let us go forth with godly fear

Because the snare of sin is broken.

The truth that makes us free is clear!

Let us proclaim what Christ has spoken.

Cause for Confidence

Psalm 123:1 ~ Unto thee lift I up mine eyes, O thou that dwellest in the heavens.

Proverbs 21:2 ~ Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts.

Nehemiah 4:20,21 ~ Our God shall fight for us. So we labored in the work: and half of them held the spears from the rising of the morning till the stars appeared.

Philemon 3 ~ Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

 

We lift our eyes to God above

Who calls us to His throne of grace,

Who ponders us with tender love,

And bids us each to seek His face. 

 

The Lord shall be our strong defense,

For He Himself shall fight for us. 

This is our cause for confidence:

By grace we are victorious!

Labor for the Lord

Read:  122 / Proverbs 20 / Nehemiah 3 / Titus 3

 

Psalm 122:6 ~ Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee.

Proverbs 20:18 ~ Every purpose is established by counsel: and with good advice make war.

Nehemiah 3:5,27 ~ And next unto them the Tekoites repaired; but their nobles put not their necks to the work of their Lord… After them the Tekoites repaired another piece.

Titus 3:1,4,5 ~ Be ready to every good work… The kindness and love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration. 

 

We pray and labor in God’s field

Until our Lord returns again.

We preach the truth He has revealed

That saves the souls of sinful men. 

 

Like those who prayed and built the wall

In spite of those who labored not,

We labor on as we recall

The price with which we have been bought.

Good Hand of God's Help

Read:  121 / Proverbs 19 / Nehemiah 2 / Titus 2

 

Psalm 121:2 ~ My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.

Proverbs 19:21,27 ~ The counsel of the LORD, that shall stand... Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge.

Nehemiah 2:18 ~ Then I told them of the hand of my God which was good upon me… And they said, Let us rise up and build. So they strengthened their hands for this good work.

Titus 2:13,14 ~ Our Savior Jesus Christ… gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

 

Our help comes from our great Creator

Who made the heaven and the earth.

Our foes are great, but God is greater

Who gave to us our second birth. 

 

Let us arise, therefore, and build 

As God gives strength by His good hand.

We know His Word shall be fulfilled;

The counsel of the Lord shall stand.
