Wise to Work

Read:  Psalm 119:121-128 / Prov. 11 / Ezra 4 / 1 Tim. 4

Psalm 119:125-126 ~ I am thy servant; give me understanding, that I may know thy testimonies. It is time for thee, LORD, to work: for they have made void thy law.

Proverbs 11:30 ~ He that winneth souls is wise.

Ezra 4:4 Then the people of the land weakened the hands of the people of Judah, and troubled them in building,

1 Timothy 4:16 ~ Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

It’s wise to work when God commands,

For this is when the Lord gives grace.

The one who knows this understands

That it is time to seek His face.

The time for winning souls is short!

Let weakened hands embrace the plow

And sow the seeds of our report

Of God’s salvation here and now!

Vain vs. Valued

Read:  Psalm 119:113-120 / Prov. 10 / Ezra 3 / 1 Tim. 3

Psalm 119:113 ~ I hate vain thoughts: but thy law do I love.

Proverbs 10:16,21 ~ The labor of the righteous tendeth to life… The lips of the righteous feed many.

Ezra 3:11 ~ And they sang together by course in praising and giving thanks unto the LORD; because he is good.

1 Timothy 3:16 ~ God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

How vain the lies are we have heard!

How valued is the truth we see!

The Lord has fed us with His Word

With Gospel truth that makes us free.

Give praise to Christ as we proclaim

He is the Hero of the story:

He died to save us!  Praise His name!

He rose, ascending up to glory!

Trait of the True

Read:  Psalm 119:105-112 / Prov. 9 / Ezra 2 / 1 Tim. 2

Psalm 119:112 ~ I have inclined mine heart to perform thy statutes always, even unto the end.

Proverbs 9:9 ~ Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

Ezra 2:62 ~ These sought their register among those that were reckoned by genealogy, but they were not found: therefore were they, as polluted, put from the priesthood.

1 Timothy 2:3-6,15 ~ God our Savior… will have all men to be saved… the Man Christ Jesus… gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time… they continue in faith.

I have a steadfast inclination

To follow Jesus to the end.

This is the trait of true salvation

That all God’s children comprehend.

The love of God extends to all,

Though many choose to turn away,

Yet those responding to His call

Shall love the Savior they obey.

Christ's Commission

Read:  Psalm 119:97-104 / Prov. 8 / Ezra 1 / 1 Tim. 1

Psalm 119:97,104 ~ O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day… therefore I hate every false way.

Proverbs 8:35,36 ~ For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favor of the LORD. But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.

Ezra 1:3 ~ Who is there among you of all his people? his God be with him… build the house of the LORD… (He is the God).

1 Timothy 1:15 ~ This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ… came into the world to save sinners.

I love to hear my Savior’s voice

When reading from His Word each day,

And thereby I have made the choice

To hate the false and deadly way.

I hear Christ’s urgent great commission

To preach the Gospel faithfully

While souls may yet escape perdition.

My heart says: “Hear am I; send me!”

Certainty of Cyrus

Read:  Psalm 119:89-96 / Prov. 7 / 2 Chron. 36 / 2 Thes. 3

Psalm 119:92 ~ Unless thy law had been my delights, I should then have perished in mine affliction.

Proverbs 7:2 ~ Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye.

2 Chronicles 36:22 ~ That the word of the LORD spoken by the mouth of Jeremiah might be accomplished, the LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia (See Isaiah 44:28-45:3).

2 Thessalonians 3:3,5 ~ The Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil… And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ.

The certainty of my conviction

Is in God’s Word that I have cherished.

Without His comfort in affliction,

I know I surely would have perished.

God’s Word is proven in the earth,

As when king Cyrus had been named

A century before his birth!

So let Christ’s coming be proclaimed!

Exploring and Expounding

Read:  Psalm 119:81-88 / Prov. 6 / 2 Chron. 35 / 2 Thes. 2

Psalm 119:83,86 ~ For I am become like a bottle in the smoke; yet do I not forget… all thy commandments are faithful.

Proverbs 6:20,23 ~ My son, keep thy father's commandment… For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life.

2 Chronicles 35:4 ~ Prepare yourselves… according to the writing of David king of Israel, and… the writing of Solomon.

2 Thessalonians 2:10-15 ~ Because they received not the love of the truth… for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie… Therefore, brethren, stand fast.

The fog of lying tongues shall clear,

Yet God remains forever true.

His Word assures me He is near;

Do I believe it?  Yes, I do!

The Word of God is filled with treasure

That shall refute the strong delusion

As we’re exploring with great pleasure

The truth expounding God’s conclusion.

To Please and To Praise

Read:  Psalm 119:73-80 / Prov. 5 / 2 Chron. 34 / 2 Thes. 1

Psalm 119:73,80 ~ Thy hands have made me and fashioned me: give me understanding, that I may learn thy commandments… Let my heart be sound in thy statutes; that I be not ashamed.

Proverbs 5:21 ~ For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings.

2 Chronicles 34:1,2 ~ Josiah…  did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the ways of David his father, and declined neither to the right hand, nor to the left.

2 Thessalonians 1:12 ~ That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

I have been fashioned by God’s hands;

I am a student in His school.

Unless I heed my Lord’s commands,

I’ll give my years unto the cruel.

Josiah did that which was right

To please and also praise the Lord.

This is the dual goal sight,

My highest calling, and reward.

Correction and Conviction

Read:  Psalm 119:65-72 / Prov. 4 / 2 Chron. 33 / 1 Thes. 5

Psalm 119:71 ~ It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes.

Proverbs 4:11 ~ I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths.

2 Chronicles 33:12-13 ~ When he was in affliction, he besought the LORD… Then Manasseh knew that the LORD he was God.

1 Thessalonians 5:23 ~ The very God of peace sanctify you wholly… I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

It’s good that I have been afflicted

By Christ’s correction with His rod

That I may thereby be convicted

And reconciled thus to God.

The Lord corrects me graciously,

He draws me with His cords of love,

He sanctifies and shields me,

And intercedes for me above.

My Ways and My Wars

Read:  Psalm 119:57-64 / Prov. 3 / 2 Chron. 32 / 1 Thes. 4

Psalm 119:59 ~ I thought on my ways, and turned my feet unto thy testimonies.

Proverbs 3:5,6 ~ Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

2 Chronicles 32:8 ~ With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the LORD our God to help us, and to fight our battles.

1 Thessalonians 4:1 ~ As ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so… abound more and more.

The Lord is thinking on my ways,

So, I should think upon them too,

That I may rightly give Him praise

In all I think, and say, and do.

The Lord protects me in each war.

He gives me grace to stand and fight

That I may please Him more and more

With all my heart, my soul, and might.

Scripture Songs

Read:  Psalm 119:49-56 / Prov. 2 / 2 Chron. 31 / 1 Thes. 3

Psalm 119:54 ~ Thy statutes have been my songs in the house of my pilgrimage.

Proverbs 2:4,5 ~ If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.

2 Chronicles 31:21 ~ In every work that he began in the service of the house of God… in the law, and in the commandments, to seek his God, he did it with all his heart, and prospered.

1 Thessalonians 3:13 ~ To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.

The words of Scripture are my songs

I sing upon my pilgrim path.

They are the treasure that belongs

To souls delivered from God’s wrath.

These Scripture songs of my salvation

With Gospel truth so wonderful

Revive my heart with dedication

To preach the Word that saves the soul.

Scorners vs. Scriptures

Read:  Psalm 119:41-48 / Prov. 1 / 2 Chron. 30 / 1 Thes. 2

Psalm 119:43 ~ And take not the word of truth utterly out of my mouth; for I have hoped in thy judgments.

Proverbs 1:23 ~ Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.

2 Chronicles 30:10 ~ So the posts passed from city to city… but they laughed them to scorn, and mocked them.

1 Thessalonians 2:4 ~ But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts.

The Word of truth our Savior gave

Is in the Gospel we proclaim

As we declare that Christ will save

All those who call upon His name.

The scorners mock among the proud,

Just as the Scriptures said they would,

Yet we, by God, have been allowed

To preach the Gospel as we should.

Nonsense of Negligence

Read:  Psalm 119:33-40 / Prov. 31 / 2 Chron. 29 / 1 Thes. 1

Psalm 119:37 ~ Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity; and quicken thou me in thy way.

Proverbs 31:27 ~ She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.

2 Chronicles 29:11 ~ My sons, be not now negligent: for the LORD hath chosen you to stand before him, to serve him.

1 Thessalonians 1:9,10 ~ Ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God… to wait for his Son from heaven… even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.

What nonsense and insanity

It is to waste a single day

By negligence and vanity

While precious souls are led astray!

May God direct us by His love

To serve the Lord with diligence.

Until Christ gathers us above,

Let us be done with negligence.

Walk in Wisdom

Read:  Psalm 119:25-32 / Proverbs 30 / 2 Chron. 28 / Col. 4

Psalm 119:29,30 ~ Remove from me the way of lying: and grant me thy law graciously. I have chosen the way of truth.

Proverbs 30:8,9 ~ Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me: lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.

2 Chronicles 28:23 [Ahaz] sacrificed unto the gods… and he said, Because the gods of the kings of Syria help… therefore will I sacrifice to them… But they were the ruin of him.

Colossians 4:5,17 Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time… Take heed to the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord, that thou fulfill it.

May God remove from me the lies

Polluting what is pure and true,

For He alone can make me wise

And pleasing in His holy view.

I see the tragic ways of kings

Who did not choose to do God’s will.

May God remove from me these things

That I may walk in wisdom still.

Wiser Ways

Read:  Psalm 119:17-24 / Proverbs 29 / 2 Chron. 27 / Col. 3

Psalm 119:23 ~ Princes also did sit and speak against me: but thy servant did meditate in thy statutes.

Proverbs 29:25,26 ~ The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe. Many seek the ruler's favor… man's judgment cometh from the LORD.

2 Chronicles 27:6 ~ So Jotham became mighty, because he prepared his ways before the LORD his God.

Colossians 3:23 ~ And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.

Though lofty princes speak with pride,

They cannot overrule our Savior.

They soon shall stand, when they have died,

To give account of their behavior.

Let us be wiser in our ways

To fear the Lord instead of men

With hearts prepared to give Him praise,

Assured that Christ will come again.
