Stand Still

Read:  Psalm 4 / Proverbs 24 / Job 12 / 1 John 5

 

Psalm 4:4 ~ Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.

Proverbs 24:32 ~ Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction.

Job 12:9,11 ~Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the LORD hath wrought this?... Doth not the ear try words?

1 John 5:20 ~ And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true… This is the true God, and eternal life.

 

Let us be still and stand in awe

As we consider very well

The price that Jesus Christ foresaw 

Which would deliver us from hell.

 

Let us consider in creation

His handiwork so wonderful

And stand amazed at His salvation

That satisfies and saves our soul.

Lifted by Love

Psalm 3:3 ~ But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.

Proverbs 23:26 ~ My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.

Job 11:13-15 ~ If thou prepare thine heart… then shalt thou lift up thy face… thou shalt be steadfast, and shalt not fear.

1 John 4:19 ~ We love him, because he first loved us.

 

The Lord has lifted up my face,

Though sin would bow my head in shame.

He rescued me with truth and grace,

And now I live to praise His name. 

 

All those who will prepare their heart

And set their hope on things above

Shall find the joy God will impart

As they explore His wondrous love.

Where is the Wisdom?

Read:  Psalm 2 / Proverbs 22 / Job 10 / 1 John 3

 

Psalm 2:1,10 ~ Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?... Be wise now therefore, O ye kings.

 Proverbs 22:20,21 ~ Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge, that I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?

Job 10:15 ~ If I be wicked, woe… I am full of confusion.

1 John 3:1 ~ Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.

 

Why is it that the nations rage?

Where is the wisdom of such kings?

Have not they seen the Scripture’s page

Where God declared prophetic things?

 

There is no reason for confusion,

In view of what the Lord foretold.

This is our obvious conclusion

As we declare what we behold.

Humble vs. Hardened

Read:  Psalm 1 / Proverbs 21 / Job 9 / 1 John 2 

 

Psalm 1:6 ~ For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

Proverbs 21:29 ~ A wicked man hardeneth his face: but as for the upright, he directeth his way.

Job 9:4 ~ Who hath hardened himself against him, and hath prospered?

1 John 2:1,2 ~ If any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous… the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the… the whole world.

 

Behold the way that God will bless

The sinners who are pardoned:

He clothes them in His righteousness

When hearts are humble and not hardened!

 

Praise God!  We have an Advocate

In Christ by His propitiation! 

How gracious and compassionate

Our Savior is to every nation!

Cleansing by Christ

Psalm 150:6 ~ Let everything that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.

Proverbs 20:9 ~ Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?

Job 8:5,6 ~ If thou wouldest seek unto God betimes, and make thy supplication to the Almighty… now he would awake for thee, and make the habitation of thy righteousness prosperous.

1 John 1:9 ~ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and… cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

 

Praise God with every breath He gives,

For He alone has made us clean

Since Jesus died and ever lives

To intercede and intervene! 

 

Though now a stain of sin may rise,

Christ draws us with the inclination

To come before His holy eyes

And find His cleansing restoration.

Grow in Grace

Psalm 149:4 For the LORD taketh pleasure in his people: he will beautify the meek with salvation.

Proverbs 19:20 Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.

Job 7:1 Is there not an appointed time to man upon earth?

2 Peter 3:18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever. Amen.

 

The Lord takes pleasure in His own

And beautifies them with salvation.

He makes His counsel clearly known

With wisdom for each situation.

 

Our days on earth are very few

So let us not be weary now,

But grow in grace and knowledge too

Till every knee to Christ shall bow.

Forcible Faith

Proverbs 18:1 ~ Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom.

Job 6:25 ~ How forcible are right words!

2 Peter 2:9 ~ The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly.

 

Both men and maidens, old and youth,

Are called by God to seek His face. 

The Lord will show to them the truth,

And He will save them by His grace. 

 

How forcible is evidence

Which proves that faith in God is right

To every sinner who repents

And turns from darkness to the light!

Stated in the Stars

The stars by God have all been numbered,

And He gave each of them a name. 

Their prophecies have never slumbered,

For God fulfilled what they proclaim. 

 

The prophecies we thus explore

Foretold what Jesus came to do.

They stated what God said before,

And all His promises came true.

Happy Hope

Psalm 146:5 ~ Happy is he… whose hope is in the LORD.

Proverbs 16:20 ~ Whoso trusteth in the LORD, happy is he.

Job 4:18 ~ Behold, he put no trust in his servants; and his angels he charged with folly.

1 Peter 5:6,7 ~ Humble yourselves… that he may exalt you… casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

 

We count them happy who will trust

The Lord our God who cannot fail.

All other hope amounts to dust

Of mortal man to no avail. 

 

How gracious is our Savior’s care

To those who seek Him and are humble.

He hears the brokenhearted prayer

And lifts the downcast when they stumble.

Comfort of Christ

Psalm 145:18 ~ The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth. 

Proverbs 15:11 ~ Hell and destruction are before the LORD: how much more, then, the hearts of the children of men?

Job 3:24 ~ For my sighing cometh before I eat, and my roarings are poured out like the waters.

1 Peter 4:19 ~ Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.

 

The Lord is near to those who call,

To all who truly seek His face. 

His searching eyes behold us all;

He longs to save us by His grace.

 

He hears the humble prayer outpoured

To Christ our Savior and Creator.

We have this access to our Lord;

There is no comfort that is greater.

Ready Reason

Psalm 144:1,11 ~ Blessed be the LORD my strength, which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight… Rid me, and deliver me from the… children, whose mouth speaketh vanity, and their right hand is a right hand of falsehood:

Proverbs 14:25 ~ A true witness delivereth souls: but a deceitful witness speaketh lies.

Job 2:10 ~ In all this did not Job sin with his lips.

1 Peter 3:15 ~ But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.

 

The Lord has taught us how to fight

Against this world’s insanity.

He gives us counsel with His light

Exposing lies and vanity. 

 

As Job sinned not when he replied

Regarding trials in their season,

So let our hearts be sanctified 

To answer with a ready reason.

Declare it in Darkness

Psalm 143:8 ~ Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.

Proverbs 13:8,17 ~ The ransom of a man's life are his riches… A faithful ambassador is health.

Job 1:21 ~ Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.

1 Peter 2:9 ~ Ye are a… royal priesthood… that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.

 

We need to hear our Savior’s voice;

In Him alone we find our wealth.

He is our reason to rejoice

As we declare His saving health.

 

Our life on earth is very short;

How soon the morning turns to night!

Let us declare our Lord’s report

In darkness as we shine His light.

Gospel of Grace

Psalm 142:3,4 ~ My spirit was overwhelmed… I looked on my right hand… refuge failed me; no man cared for my soul.

Proverbs 12:25 ~ Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad. 

Esther 10:3 ~ Mordecai… was next unto king… great among the Jews… accepted of the multitude of his brethren, seeking the wealth of his people, and speaking peace to all his seed.

1 Peter 1:25 ~ But the word of the Lord endureth forever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

 

How lost and overwhelmed I was! 

There was no refuge for my soul,

And no one cared, alas, because

They had no answers nor control.

 

I cried to God, then, just in case

There was a way to purge my sin.

I heard the Gospel of His grace;

Christ saved me when He entered in!

Christ is Coming

Psalm 141:8 ~ But mine eyes are unto thee, O GOD the Lord: in thee is my trust; leave not my soul destitute.

Proverbs 11:8 ~ The righteous is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked cometh in his stead.

Esther 9:1 ~ The enemies of the Jews hoped to have power over them, though it was turned to the contrary, that the Jews had rule over them that hated them.

James 5:8,9 ~ Stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh… behold, the Judge standeth before the door.

 

My eyes are fixed upon the Lord;

All else is shifting sand and dust.

By Christ my soul shall be restored,

So, in His mercy I will trust. 

 

My enemies may gather round,

But God has taught me not to fear. 

I’m waiting for the trumpet sound;

The coming of the Lord draws near.
