Read:  Psalm 30 / Proverbs 30 / 1 Kings 12 / Acts 1

 

Psalm 30:7 ~ LORD, by thy favor thou hast made my mountain to stand strong: thou didst hide thy face, and I was troubled.

Proverbs 30:4,5 ~ Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended?... Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.

1 Kings 12:24 ~ They hearkened therefore to the word of the LORD, and returned… according to the word of the LORD.

Acts 1:8 ~ But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me… unto the uttermost part of the earth… This same Jesus… shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

 

The Lord upholds us with His favor,

Though sometimes He may hide His face

As we are taught to trust our Savior

And to depend upon His grace. 

 

He sends us by His Spirit’s power

To those who need a second birth

As we approach that coming hour

When Christ shall come to rule the earth.

Foolishly Forsaken

Read:  Psalm 29 / Proverbs 29 / 1 Kings 11 / John 21

 

Psalm 29:2 ~ Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.

Proverbs 29:26 ~ Many seek the ruler's favor; but every man's judgment cometh from the LORD.

1 Kings 11:31,33 ~ Thus saith the LORD… I will rend the kingdom out of the hand of Solomon… they have forsaken me… and have not walked in my ways… as did David.

John 21:22 ~ Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me.

 

Give God the glory He is due,

Regardless of what others say.

We dare not otherwise pursue

A ruler’s favor, come what may. 

 

Since we are prone to be mistaken,

We need God’s truth to make us see

When we have foolishly forsaken

The Lord who says to “Follow Me.”

Wisdom in His Word

Read:  Psalm 28 / Proverbs 28 / 1 Kings 10 / John 20

 

Psalm 28:1 ~ O LORD my rock; be not silent to me: lest, if thou be silent to me, I become like them that go down into the pit.

Proverbs 28:14 ~ Happy is the man that feareth alway: but he that hardeneth his heart shall fall into mischief.

1 Kings 10:24 ~ And all the earth sought to Solomon, to hear his wisdom, which God had put in his heart.

John 20:31 ~ But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

 

I daily hear my Savior talk

As by His Word my heart is fed

To love and fear Him in my walk

As by His Spirit I am led.

 

His Word puts wisdom in my heart,

And sometimes, like a surgeon’s knife,

His Word will purge my inward part,

That I may live a fruitful life.

Behold the Beauty

Read:  Psalm 27 / Proverbs 27 / 1 Kings 9 / John 19

 

Psalm 27:1,4 ~ The LORD is my light and my salvation… One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after… to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in his temple. 

Proverbs 27:11 ~ My son, be wise, and make my heart glad, that I may answer him that reproacheth me.

1 Kings 9:4,5 ~ And if thou wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked, in integrity of heart… Then I will establish the throne of thy kingdom upon Israel forever, as I promised.

John 19:5,14 ~ Then came Jesus forth, wearing the crown of thorns… Behold the Man!... Behold your King!

 

Behold the beauty of the Lord

Who is my Light and my Salvation!

The more His beauty is explored,

My heart is drawn with adoration. 

 

The Lord who calls me to be wise

Has shown to me His perfect plan:

The promised Lamb for sinners dies!

Behold your King!  Behold the Man!

Curse in the Cup

Read:  Psalm 26 / Proverbs 26 / 1 Kings 8 / John 18

 

Psalm 26:11 ~ But as for me, I will walk in mine integrity: redeem me, and be merciful unto me.

Proverbs 26:2 ~ The curse causeless shall not come.

1 Kings 8:56 ~ Blessed be the LORD… there hath not failed one word of all his good promise, which he promised.

John 18:11 ~ Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it? 

 

I’ll walk in my integrity

And thank the Lord I am redeemed.

He bore my curse to rescue me;

My sin was worse than it had seemed. 

 

I thank the Lord who holds me up

And keeps His promises He made. 

For me He drank the bitter cup!

My curse is gone!  My debt is paid!

Temporary vs. Timeless

Read:  Psalm 25 / Proverbs 25 / 1 Kings 7 / John 17

 

Psalm 25:9 ~ The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way.

Proverbs 25:28 ~ He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.

1 Kings 6:38; 7:1 ~ The house [of the Lord] ... was he seven years in building it.  But Solomon was building his own house thirteen years, and he finished all his house.

John 17:15,16 ~ I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

 

The meek shall hear the Savior’s voice

And live to serve the King of kings. 

The proud shall soon regret their choice

To live for temporary things. 

 

The years that Solomon devoted

To build the house of God were seven,

But thirteen for his own were noted;

Beware!  Our timeless home is heaven.

Changeless Cheer

Read:  Psalm 24 / Proverbs 24 / 1 Kings 6 / John 16 

 

Psalm 24:1,2 ~ The earth is the LORD'S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods.

Proverbs 24:3 ~ Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established.

1 Kings 6:11,12 ~ The word of the LORD came to Solomon…  Concerning this house which thou art in building, if thou wilt walk in my statutes… and keep all my commandments to walk in them; then will I perform my word with thee.

John 16:33 ~ These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

 

The earth belongs to Jesus Christ,

The Lord and Maker of creation,

Who for our sake was sacrificed

To thereby purchase our salvation. 

 

His Word is truth and shall not cease,

Though earth and heaven disappear,

For Christ, who is our endless Peace,

Extends to us His changeless cheer.

Prophetic Promises

Read:  Psalm 23 / Proverbs 23 / 1 Kings 5 / John 15 

 

Psalm 23:1,6 ~ The LORD is my Shepherd; I shall not want… Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

Proverbs 23:18 ~ For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.

1 Kings 5:12 ~ The LORD gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him.

John 15:22-25 ~ If I had not come and spoken unto them… If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin… But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled… They hated me without a cause.

 

The reason for my expectation

Is that my Shepherd cannot fail.

He is the Lord of my salvation,

And where He leads, He shall prevail. 

 

His promises were proven true,

Foreseen in His prophetic laws. 

His enemies were seen there too

Who “hated” Him “without a cause.”

Ransom and Reign

Psalm 22:27 ~ All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the LORD: and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee.

Proverbs 22:20,21 ~ Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge… of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?

1 Kings 4:29 ~ God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding much, and largeness of heart, even as the sand.

John 14:29 ~ And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe.

 

From all the ends of planet earth

The people shall recall and show

How Jesus came in humble birth

To ransom sinners here below. 

 

The Lord has given certainty

By His prophetic words so plain

As in Psalm twenty-two we see

That Christ who ransomed us shall reign.

Highest Happiness

Read:  Psalm 21 / Proverbs 21 / 1 Kings 3 / John 13

 

Psalm 21:1 ~ The king shall joy in thy strength, O LORD; and in thy salvation how greatly shall he rejoice!

Proverbs 21:3,21 ~ To do justice and judgment is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice… He that followeth righteousness and mercy findeth life, righteousness, and honor.

1 Kings 3:10,28 ~ The speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing… And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king: for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to do judgment.

John 13:17 ~ If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.

 

In God’s salvation we rejoice

With strength and wisdom from above.

All those who will obey His voice

Shall find their refuge in His love.

 

This is our highest happiness

That God is putting on display. 

This is the path that He will bless

As we believe Him and obey.

Cleansed by Christ

Psalm 20:6 ~ Now know I that the LORD saveth his anointed; he will hear him from his holy heaven with the saving strength of his right hand.

Proverbs 20:9 ~ Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?

1 Kings 2:1,2 ~ Now the days of David drew nigh that he should die; and he charged Solomon his son… I go the way of all the earth: be thou strong therefore, and shew thyself a man.

John 12:35 ~ Jesus said… Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.

 

The Lord said He would intervene 

To rescue us by His Anointed.

No one but Christ could make us clean,

And to this end, He was appointed.

 

Though we are sinners from our birth,

Our Lord gives peace in times of strife,

For though we die like all the earth,

Through Christ we have eternal life.

Stubborn Stone

Read:  Psalm 19 / Proverbs 19 / 1 Kings 1 / John 11

 

Psalm 19:9-11 ~ The judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether... Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.

Proverbs 19:20 ~ Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.

1 Kings 1:50 ~ And Adonijah feared because of Solomon, and arose, and went, and caught hold on the horns of the altar.

John 11:39,40 ~ Take ye away the stone… Said I not… that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?

 

The judgments of the Lord are true,

Though sinners think they don’t exist.

The stubborn stone that blocks their view

Is pride that makes their heart resist!

 

Did not our Savior make it clear

That we should take away the stone?

The coming of the Lord draws near;

Should not we make His glory known?

Faithful Friendship

Psalm 18:35 ~ Thy gentleness hath made me great.

Proverbs 18:24 ~ There is a Friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

2 Samuel 24:14 ~ David said… I am in a great strait: let us fall now into the hand of the LORD; for his mercies are great.

John 10:14,15 ~ I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine… I lay down my life for the sheep.

 

The gentleness of God is seen

In friendship closer than a brother. 

Who else, like Him, would intervene

For sinners, unlike any other?

 

The friendship of the Lord was shown

When Jesus died for wayward sheep.

The faithfulness of Christ is known

By promises He lives to keep.

When I Wake

Read:  Psalm 17 / Proverbs 17 / 2 Samuel 23 / John 9

 

Psalm 17:14,15 ~ Men of the world… have their portion in this life. As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.

Proverbs 17:17 ~ A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

2 Samuel 23:5 ~ He hath made with me an everlasting covenant, ordered… and sure: for this is all my salvation.

John 9:25 ~ He answered and said… one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.

 

When I awake I shall behold

The beauty of my Savior’s face, 

Yet while I live, I would be bold

To tell the Gospel of His grace.

 

When life on earth comes to an end

With all of its adversity,

I’ll see my everlasting Friend 

Who gave Himself to rescue me.
