Works without Worries

“Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established” (Proverbs 16:3).  “Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?...  But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.  Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself” (Matthew 2:25-34).

The Lord knows what we should be doing;
And He’ll establish every thought,
He shows what we should be pursuing,
And surely knows what we should not.

We shouldn’t worry about life;
We need not ask, “What shall we eat?”
Or for such things to enter strife,
For life is surely more than meat.

We shouldn’t worry for tomorrow;
He gives us grace for every deed.
Tomorrow’s grace we cannot borrow;
His present grace is all we need.

It’s not as if we should not plan;
We chart our course for things ahead,
Yet needs are met by God, not man,
And by the Lord we should led.

O Lord, You’ve shown to us the key:
We need to seek Your kingdom first,
For then Your righteousness we’ll see
For which we hunger and we thirst.

Lord, show us also what to do
To be Your instrument of grace,
That precious souls may thirst for You,
Repent, and humbly seek Your face.
