The
question found on Scripture’s page
Should
make us wonder as we pause:
Indeed,
“Why do the heathen rage?”
What
is their purpose and their cause?
Their
purpose shall be disappointed!
They’ve
set themselves against Lord
And
raged against the Lord’s Anointed
Whom
they have foolishly abhorred!
No
longer do we have to wonder
What
their intentions truly are:
They
break the bands of God asunder,
And
His cords from them afar!
We
see the darkness of their way,
So
void of wisdom and of light.
We
hear the foolish things they say,
Which
they imagine to be right.
The
fear of God is far from them,
So
all their reasoning is vain.
Their
very souls they thus condemn,
And
cast away eternal gain.
The
wise man fears and will depart
From evil when he will repent.
From evil when he will repent.
The
fool will rage with hardened heart
And
blindly still be confident.
We
thank You, Lord, for eyes that see,
For
we, as others, once were blind.
By
grace we view eternity,
And
everlasting joy we find!
So
many, Lord, are walking still
Upon
the broad and darkened path
Where
many rage against Your will
Who
ought to flee from coming wrath.
The
reason that they rage is clear:
They
use their vain imagination
Instead
of wisdom’s godly fear
To
turn them, Lord, to Your salvation!
The
raging, Lord, we know will cease
When
every knee to You shall bow.
Until
that day, we show the peace
Which,
by Your Gospel, You endow.
