“The LORD lift up His countenance upon thee, and give thee peace” (Numbers 6:26). “The LORD hath heard my supplication; the LORD will receive my prayer” (Psalm 6:9). “The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe” (Proverbs 18:10). “There arose a great tempest… Then He arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm. But the men marveled, saying, What manner of Man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?” (Matthew 8:24-27).
When
life presents a circumstance
With
tribulations that increase,
The
Lord lifts up His countenance
And
thereby gives His perfect peace.
He’s
waiting for our supplication;
He
surely will receive our prayer.
In
every troubling situation
We’re
called to cast on Him our care.
Upholding
all things by His Word,
We
see the greatness of His power.
Yet
greater power He has stirred
To
save us as a mighty Tower!
Creation
heard His awesome voice
And
instantly all things existed,
For
unlike us, they had no choice,
And
not one molecule resisted.
But
humans exercised their will
To
turn against our gracious Lord.
We
did it then; we do it still,
And
thus our peace must be restored.
In
hopelessness we would have perished
Like
sailors drowning in the waves
If
God had not in mercy cherished
The
souls that He forever saves!
Our
Savior could not simply speak
(As
to the waves and to the wind)
To
bring the peace with God we seek
And
save the souls of all who sinned.
He
had to take on human form
To
taste of death for every man
To
be our Refuge in the storm
And
Tower where we safely ran.
What
manner of a Man is this
Who
thus restores to us such calm
Affording
us eternal bliss
And
cures us with salvation’s balm?
We
praise You for this peace, O Lord,
Which
You secured at such a cost!
Your
life poured out has thus restored
The
power that redeems the lost!
We
thank You, Lord, for what You did
To
rescue us from sin and shame;
Your
peace and power are not hid
From anyone who trusts Your name.
