Light and Love

“The thoughts of the righteous are right: but the counsels of the wicked are deceit” (Proverbs 12:5).  “This then is the message which we have heard of Him, and declare unto you, that GOD IS LIGHT, and in Him is no darkness at all… And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us.  GOD IS LOVE… We love Him, because He first loved us.” (1 John 1:5, 4:16,19). 

It’s not through our imagination

We form our thoughts about our God;

We trust His Gospel of salvation,

Rejecting lies that men applaud.

The message we have heard is right:

God sent our Savior from above! 

Now we declare that GOD IS LIGHT,

And we proclaim that GOD IS LOVE! 

Since God is LIGHT, we surely know

That He exposes every lie.  

His light has shined!  His truth will show

What those in darkness yet deny. 

Since God is LOVE, He found a way

To save our souls which had been cursed. 

He paid the debt we could not pay,

So we love Him, who loved us first! 

The light and love of God reveal

His great salvation He has sent,   

For by His stripes our Lord will heal

The sinner who will yet repent. 

There is no lack of evidence;

His light is shining everywhere! 

Behold, the Lord is our Defense;

This is the message we declare! 

But though His light has clearly shined,

And though His love was seen on earth,

The counsel of deceit will blind

And rob the soul of second birth. 

Lord, thank You for the LIGHT You gave

Which turned us from such dark deceit

And for the LOVE it took to save

Our souls You rescued from defeat!

Lord, send us forth to now proclaim

The Gospel people need to hear  

With LIGHT that will expose their shame

And LOVE that casts out every fear.
