“The idols of the heathen are silver and gold, the work of men's hands. They have mouths, but they speak not; eyes have they, but they see not; they have ears, but they hear not; neither is there any breath in their mouths. They that make them are like unto them: so is every one that trusteth in them” (Psalm 135:15-18). “The rest of the men… repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk” (Revelation 9:20-21).
There
is a tragic imitation
Of
idols that today appear
Displayed
by those without salvation,
Who
neither see, nor can they hear.
Like
idols, they have ears and eyes;
They
have a mouth to speak their thought,
Professing
thus that they are wise,
Though
God declares that they are not.
Such
idols are the fool’s invention,
Reflecting
things that don’t exist,
Which
sinners craft with the intention
Of
shunning God, whom they resist.
In
fact, there should be less confusion
With
God displayed through evidence!
Yet
souls may choose a strong delusion,
But
they shall be without defense.
Such
hardened hearts are surely odd,
Which
evidence does not compel
To
flee from wrath and turn to God
Who
would deliver them from hell!
This
deadly imitation shows
That
there is more than meets the eye:
We
wrestle not with human foes;
The
gates of hell we now defy.
We
see the idols, Lord, today
Which
neither hear, nor see, nor walk,
As
those who imitate their way
Now
in their willful blindness mock.
Lord,
help us reach those by Your Spirit
Who
yet will listen to Your Word,
As
by You persuade them now to hear it,
Obeying
then what they have heard.
We
thank You, Lord, that there is power
For
idol strongholds to be broken!
We
preach Your Gospel in this hour
And
show the proof that You have spoken.
