“Trust
in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall
direct thy paths” (Proverbs 3:5,6). “Jesus
saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen Me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed. And many other signs truly did Jesus in the
presence of His disciples which are not written in this book: but these are written, that ye might believe
that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life
through His name” (John 20:29-31).
Our
trust in the Lord has a very good start
If
we will acknowledge His marvelous deeds.
How
great are His reasons convincing our heart,
That
Christ can be trusted wherever He leads!
We
ponder now Thomas, well known for his doubt,
So
gently reproved by our Lord resurrected.
We
see how our Savior thus singled him out,
And
by this instruction we too are directed.
Be
careful to read the two verses that follow!
Our
Lord is not saying to shun evidence,
For
faith without reason will surely be hollow,
And
we are commanded to give a defense.
Since
faith is the EVIDENCE of things not seen,
And
we are to love God with all of our mind,
It’s
not on our own understanding we lean,
But
rather on proof in the Scriptures we find.
This
Thomas saw Lazarus raised from the dead!
Was
not he thus taught to rely on Christ’s Word?
Should
not he have trusted in what our Lord said
And
be thus convinced by the promise he heard?
How
great are the signs in this wonderful Book,
Providing
our souls such a solid foundation
Upon
which our faith can be strong as we look
To
Jesus, the Author and Lord of salvation!
Now
these are the signs God has given to train
A
confident trust in our Lord to our youth,
And
this is the witness by which we explain
The
reason we know that in Christ is the Truth.
O
Lord, we give thanks for the training You give
To
trust in Your Word and to lean upon You.
Your
tomb is now empty! We know that You
live!
How
great our assurance is that You are true!
