Problem of Procrastination

“Prepare thine heart, and stretch out thine hands toward Him” (Job 11:13).  “Today if ye will hear His voice, harden not your heart” (Psalm 95:7,8).  “Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end… the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand… Cease, My son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge… Judgments are prepared for scorners” (Proverbs 19:20-29).  “Through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved” (Acts 15:11).

The problem of procrastination,
Which ends in everlasting sorrow,
Is that it puts off God’s salvation
Forevermore until “tomorrow.”

Procrastination now has said:
Prepare your heart another day,
For there is surely time ahead
To give it thought and then to pray.

TOMORROW is not guaranteed;
TONIGHT the soul may be required.
Eternity now comes with speed
And soon TODAY will be expired.

The counsel of the Lord is plain:
Today we’re called to hear His voice.
Tomorrow’s plans may be in vain,
For death may then deny a choice.

Procrastination says to us:
Eternity can surely wait!
The scorners likewise counsel thus
Until, of course, it is too late.

Salvation comes to those who bow
And humbly seek our Savior’s face.
The time to hear His voice is NOW,
While yet the Lord extends His grace!

We thank You, Lord, that You extend
Your counsel that will make us wise,
Not only now, but in the end,
With truth that rescues us from lies!

O help us, Lord, persuade the lost
To flee from wrath while yet they can,
Since You have paid redemption’s cost
To offer them salvation’s plan.
