Our Hope of Heaven

“Thou hast set our iniquities before Thee, our secret sins in the light of Thy countenance.  For all our days are passed away in Thy wrath… O satisfy us early with Thy mercy… And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us” (Psalm 90:8-17).  “In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and His children shall have a place of refuge… The righteous hath hope in his death” (Proverbs 14:26,32).  “Jesus Christ… is Lord of all… To Him give all the prophets witness, that through His name whosoever believeth in Him shall receive remission of sins” (Acts 10:36,43).

What hope can there be in our God’s holy sight
Where all of our sins are so clearly in view?
Our sins call for wrath; God must do what is right!
In light of His justice, now what can we do?

How quickly our days pass away now in wrath:
Our end is in sight from the day we begin.
Our soul is condemned!  Is there no other path
Which we may pursue to escape from our sin?

Praise God for this question produced by our fear
That leads us to call upon God for a Savior,
For Christ is our Refuge, and He will draw near
To save every sinner who seeks for His favor!

Our Savior has met the demands of the Law
As all of the prophets have thus testified,
And thus He is able to save those He’ll draw
Because for their justification He died.

It’s not by our own righteous effort or duty
That we may be sure we’ve escaped condemnation,
But rather because of our Savior’s own beauty
With which He has clothed us in so great salvation.

O Lord, we give thanks for the hope that is sure
That heaven is home for each soul that You save.
How strong is this confidence, still more secure
Because You triumphantly rose from the grave!
