“The
LORD loveth the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob. Glorious things are spoken of thee, O city of
God” (Psalm 87:2,3). “But he [Stephen],
being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up steadfastly into heaven, and saw the
glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, and said, Behold, I
see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God” (Acts
7:55,56).
See
heaven opened! What a sight,
Sweeter
than we could have dreamed!
The
Lord has given us this right
With
all who are by Christ redeemed!
How
glorious are those gates above,
The
portal of God’s dwelling place!
The
eyes of God behold with love
The
souls who enter by His grace.
Let’s
set our hearts on God’s affection,
Though
this is what the world hates.
Our
eyes are fixed on His perfection
As
we behold His glorious gates!
Behold,
He stands to welcome us
Who
by His grace are born again!
When
Stephen saw our Savior thus,
How
glorious was his vision then!
He
saw our Savior, Christ the Lord,
Exalted
there at God’s right hand.
How
joyfully his eyes explored
The
glory of Emmanuel’s land!
O
Lord, we too would fix our eyes
Upon
those gates You opened wide
Where
every witness testifies
That
glorious things await inside!
