“What
is man, that Thou shouldest
magnify him and that Thou shouldest set Thine heart upon him?” (Job 7:17). “He
shall give His angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways (Psalm
91:11). “Hell and destruction are
before the LORD: how much more then the hearts of the children of men?”
(Proverbs 15:11). “What was I, that I could withstand
God?” (Acts 11:17).
What
is man upon this earth
That
God would set on him His heart
And
estimate him to be worth
The
costly ransom He’d impart?
What
is man that God would send
His
angels forth for his protection?
Why
would God Himself defend
And
seek to turn him with correction?
What
is man before the Lord
Who
ponders all the hearts of men?
When
every thought has been explored,
Why
would He love us even then?
What
is man, withstanding still
The
grace of God through Jesus Christ,
Who
yet resists the Savior’s will,
Though
Christ for him was sacrificed?
O
Lord, we’re left to wonder why
Our
souls by You are so esteemed
That
You would even stoop to die
For
sinful man that You redeemed!
We
thank You, Lord, for Your salvation
By
which we have been justified!
How
wondrous is Your estimation
Of
man by grace thus magnified!
