"Then sang Moses and the children of Israel this song unto the LORD, and spake, saying, I will sing unto the LORD, for He hath triumphed gloriously.... The LORD is my strength and song, and He is become my salvation: He is my God, and I will prepare Him an habitation.... The LORD is a Man of war: the LORD is His name" (Exodus 15:1-3). "And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy... for Thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by Thy blood.... Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honor, and glory, and blessing" (Revelation 5:9,12).
Our wonderful Warrior, battle-scarred Lord,
Has valiantly fought to obtain our salvation!
How great was His mercy that sought the reward
Of making His people His own habitation!
The gates of our prison our Savior has stormed!
He broke all the bars of our dark, dismal cell!
How great was the battle! How well He performed,
Redeeming our souls from the fires of hell!
How rightly our Savior, our great Man of war,
Inspires our worship and fills us with song,
As we, with increasing amazement, explore,
The love that compelled Him to suffer so long!
O Lord, our Redeemer, how worthy You are
To reign in the hearts that You fought to set free!
We'll wonder with worship at each battle scar
Displayed in Your glorified body we see!
