Look at the Lake

"An ungodly witness scorneth judgment.... Judgments are prepared for scorners" (Proverbs 19:28,29). "And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God, and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.... and whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire" (Revelation 20:12,15).

We hear the loud and haughty scorn
Of those who vainly talk,
Who will not hear God's Spirit warn
Of judgment that they mock.

There is a warning yet declared
They've willfully ignored
Of judgments nonetheless prepared
When they shall meet the Lord.

We see in Revelation's Book
That dreadful, fiery lake:
We ought to take a longer look
To see what is at stake!

We also find in Revelation
The Book of Life as well
With names of all who have salvation,
By grace redeemed from hell.

And shall we not be moved to speak
To souls who yet may hear
And be persuaded now to seek
The Lord while He is near?

O Lord, because of what You've shown
Of judgment yet in view,
We would more urgently make known
The saving grace in You!

Since we have fled from wrath to come
To You, our Hiding Place,
Lord, use us for persuading some
Who yet will seek Your face!
