"Ye have seen... how I bare you on eagles' wings, and brought you unto Myself. Now therefore, if ye will obey My voice indeed, and keep My covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto Me above all people: for all the earth is Mine" (Exodus 19:4,5). "Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.... I will trust in the covert of Thy wings" (Psalm 61:3,4).
How aptly the wings of the eagles portray
The marvelous care of our Savior.
The earth is the Lord's: He will teach us His way
By even the eagles' behavior.
He carried His people upon eagles' wings
And covered their souls for protection.
How rich is the earth as we ponder these things
Which speak of our Savior's perfection!
We study the eagles with great expectation
Of lessons their traits will afford
To teach us the wonderful truths of salvation
And beauties of our precious Lord.
Thus carried and covered with wings from above,
Portrayed in the eagles here shown,
We rest in the care of astonishing love
That Christ has for each of His own!
O Lord, we give thanks for the lessons we learn,
As earth, like a book on Your shelf,
With all of creation, wherever we turn,
Will teach us the things of Yourself!
We ponder, O Savior, above all we see,
Your cross with its fullest expression.
There never has been, and there never could be,
A portrait exhausting its lesson.
