Nearness of His Name

"Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks... for that Thy name is near Thy wondrous works declare" (Psalm 75:1).  "The LORD shall be thy Confidence" (Proverbs 3:26).  "He shall feed His flock like a Shepherd: He shall gather the lambs with His arm, and carry them in His bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young" (Isaiah 40:9-11).  "Thanks be unto God for His Unspeakable Gift" (2 Corinthians 9:15). 

The name of God is very near,

Which all His wondrous works declare. 

The Lord has made this very clear;

He hears and answers every prayer. 

The nearness of His name brings peace

Because He is our Confidence. 

His presence makes our fears to cease

Because He is our strong Defense. 

He is our Shepherd who shall feed

And guard our souls from every harm. 

As lambs that He will gently lead,

He holds us safely with His arm.   

O Lord, how pleasant is Your name;

You are the Gift Unspeakable! 

You died to take away our shame;

You gave Yourself to save our soul! 

The nearness of Your name, O Lord,

Has thrilled us with Your reputation

As we with wonder have explored

The blessings of Your great salvation.

We praise Your name, our God and Savior,

For nearness that You have displayed

As we perceive Your saving favor,

And contemplate the price You paid!
