"Thy congregation... Thou hast purchased of old... Thou hast redeemed" (Psalm 74:2). "For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that ye through His poverty might be rich" (2 Corinthians 8:9).
There
was an awful cost involved,
For
Christ to claim His congregation.
Our
greatest problem then was solved
When
Jesus purchased our salvation.
We
surely know the cost of grace
That
Jesus paid to save the lost.
He
laid His life down in our place,
To
satisfy redemption's cost!
How
rich we are who once were poor
Because
our Savior paid this price!
Recalling
this, our hearts adore
Our
Lord for His great sacrifice.
We
once were lost in poverty;
There
was no ransom we could pay.
There
was no hope eternally
As
we approached our judgment day.
How
great the riches are He gave
To
save us from eternal loss!
He
gave His all that He might save
Our
souls by dying on the cross!
We
thank You, Lord, for all You paid
For
our redemption when You died.
We
hear You say, "Be not afraid,"
For
judgment now is "satisfied."
Receive
Your congregation's praise
As
we recall the cost, O Lord,
That
Your redemptive work displays
With
heaven's riches thus outpoured!
