Drawing Near vs. Dreadful Need

"For, lo, they that are far from Thee shall perish... But it is good for me to draw near to God" (Psalm 73:27,28).  "For the turning away of the simple shall slay them... But whoso hearkeneth unto Me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil" (Proverbs 1:32,33).  "Thou hast in love to my soul... cast all my sins behind Thy back" (Isaiah 38:17).  "For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation... but the sorrow of the world worketh death" (2 Corinthians 7:10).

How good it is when hearts are drawn
To follow where the Lord will lead.
How soon the rebel's days are gone,
Who yet denies his dreadful need.

All those who turn away from God
Are walking on a dreadful path.
They won't escape His judgment rod
Unless they flee from coming wrath.

Yet those who trust in Christ the Lord
Shall find their Hiding Place from fear.
No wonder Christ is so adored:
He gave Himself to draw us near!

The love that Christ has for our soul
Shall never wane, nor shall it lack.
He paid our debt for sins in full,
And cast them all behind His back.

O Lord, we thank You that You sent
A godly sorrow to our heart,
That called us truly to repent
And from rebellion to depart.

And now, Lord, with our borrowed breath,
We're drawing near to You to say,
We thank You that You suffered death
To meet our dreadful need that day!
