Remedy and Reason

"Surely I would speak to the Almighty, and I desire to reason with God.  But ye are forgers of lies, ye are all physicians of no value" (Job 13:3,4).  "I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths" (Proverbs 4:11).  "Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD" (Isaiah 1:18).  "Jesus saith... What have I to do with thee?... And needed not that any should testify of man: for He knew what was in man" (John 2:4,25).

There is a remedy we find
As God extends His invitation
To satisfy the troubled mind
That seeks a refuge of salvation.

There is a longing in the heart
To know the truth that makes us free,
Which faith and reason will impart
As God instructs us graciously.

Though many still are forging lies,
There is way to now discern
Between the foolish and the wise
As God invites us now to learn.

Yet reason has its greatest goal
In God's salvation that we gain.
If man should lose his very soul,
All other reasoning is vain.

Now what have we to do with God?
He either is our Judge or Savior!
It matters not what men applaud
If we do not obtain God's favor!

So "come now," God Almighty said,
"And let us reason," it is written.
For us the Lamb of God was led
As to the slaughter to be smitten.

The remedy for sinful man
Through Christ, the Gospel is revealing.
How vain is any other plan
That has no answer for our healing!

Lord, thank You for the remedy
That saves us from eternal loss!
You've shown us the necessity
To find our refuge in Your cross!

O Lord, Your remedy and reason
Which brought You here to die for us
Constrains us now in every season
To preach Your Word so marvelous!
