Portraying His Passion

"When Jesus knew that His hour was come that He should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved His own which were in the world, He loved them unto the end... Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He was come from God, and went to God; He riseth from supper, and laid aside His garments; and took a towel, and girded Himself.  After that He poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith He was girded" (John 13:1-5).

When Jesus knew His time was near
In which He would be sacrificed,
He gave His own a portrait clear
Of all He came to do as Christ.

With supper with His own complete,
He laid His garments then aside
And with a towel He washed their feet,
Portraying love He did not hide.

He loved His own until the end.
Indeed, before He made the earth,
He knew the price to be our Friend,
And thus esteemed us with that worth.

Behold the love our Lord portrayed!
He left the splendor of His throne
And as a Servant then was made
To lay His life down for His own!

O Lord, You take our breath away
As we are pondering Your love,
Amazed by passion on display
Which brought You from Your throne above!

We are the object of Your passion,
Our great Redeemer, King, and Savior.
Your love portrayed in such a fashion
Has rescued us with heaven's favor!

We'll praise You, Lord, forevermore
For passion You portrayed for us.
You are the One whom we adore
In view of love so marvelous!
