Solace of So

“For God SO loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).

How wondrously vast is this measure of “SO”,
Describing the boundless, unspeakable love
That moved God to plan and to freely bestow
The Gift of His Son whom He sent from above!

There’s more value here than the mind comprehends
In each of our souls that our God SO esteems:
How much does God love us?  His love SO extends,
He spared not His Son as the Price that redeems!

The solace of “SO” is that God thus expresses
His wondrous compassion on souls He has cherished.
We stand in amazement of Christ who SO blesses
Our souls which without Him would surely have perished!

O Lord, as we think of Your cross and Your strife,
We ponder the ransom You paid for each soul.
SO counting the cost to extend to us life,
You laid down Your life to redeem us in full.

We thank You, O Lord, for the solace You give,
Since we are redeemed with an infinite cost!
Because You SO loved us, and thereby we live,
Lord, send us to show Your great love to the lost.
