Search the Scriptures

“Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end... The counsel of the LORD, that shall stand” (Proverbs 19:20,21).  “Search the Scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of Me.  And ye will not come to Me, that ye might have life” (John 5:39,40).

Now search the Scriptures very well;

In doing so, there’s great reward.

The prophecies that they foretell

Are testifying of our Lord.

The Scriptures now provide a look

At things to come before their time.

We search and find no other book

With counsels that are so sublime. 

The testimonies found therein

Foretold how Christ would come to earth  

To be an Offering for our sin

And grant to us a second birth.

In Bethlehem our Lord was born,

As Micah’s prophecy had stated. 

We hear Isaiah too forewarn

That Christ our Savior would be hated.

King David prophesied of Christ,

That they would pierce His hands and feet.  

He saw our Savior sacrificed

And our redemption thus complete.

We search the Scriptures now to see

The One of Whom they testify.

There is no other it could be:

It is our Lord whom came to die!

How can a soul be deaf and dumb?

How can a sinner still be blind?

It is by choice they WILL NOT come.

The consequence?  A darkened mind.

O Lord, we thank You that You came

As all the prophets had foretold!

Now grant us boldness to proclaim

The Gospel that the Scriptures hold.
