“Thou
hast ascended on high, Thou hast led captivity captive: Thou hast received
GIFTS for men; yea, for the
rebellious also, that the LORD God might dwell among them. Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with
benefits, even the God of our salvation” (Psalm 68:18,19). “My son, give Me thine heart, and let thine
eyes observe My ways” (Proverbs 23:26).
“I was blind, now I see… He hath opened mine eyes” (John 9:25-30).
Our
Savior descended from heaven’s great height
To
purchase salvation which He alone gives,
And
in this salvation He gives us the sight
To
see Him ascended on high where He lives.
It’s
good that He gives gifts to the rebels as well,
For
all we like sheep, after all, went astray.
He
purchased redemption to save us from hell,
And
gave us our access by grace now to pray.
His
gifts are so many, it’s like counting sands
In
all of the oceans and on every shore.
In
view of such benefits from our Lord’s hands,
How
can we withhold what our Lord asks us for?
The
Lord is now calling His own to impart
To
Him the one gift that expresses our praise:
“My
son,” He says earnestly, “give Me thine heart,”
And
thereby our eyes shall observe all His ways.
O
Lord, on Your cross You became our Defender:
You
bought us at such unspeakable cost,
So
now we would come with hearts to surrender,
Knowing
that what we would keep shall be lost.
O
Lord, there is no one who gives like You do:
There’s
no greater love that has ever been shown!
O
give us a true heart, surrendered to You,
The
greatest Gift Giver this world has known!
