Charged to Choose

“I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live” (Deuteronomy 30:19).  “And by Him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses” (Acts 13:39).    

Heaven heard, and earth as well,

The choice that Moses was rehearsing:

Life in heaven, death in hell;

Eternal blessing, endless cursing.

The Gospel choice that we proclaim

Reflects the charge that Moses gave.

The charge to choose is still the same,

For Jesus Christ alone can save.

The Lord provides the means to bless:

He gave Himself upon the cross

That He might grant us righteousness 

And purge away our sins as dross.

So choosing Christ is choosing bliss!

Refusing Him condemns the soul.

O what insanity is this

Which turns away His blessings full?

We thank You, Lord, for boundless love

That gave Your best and took our worst!

That we might choose Your life above,

You chose the cross where You were cursed!
