Retirement? Ridiculous!

“Now Joshua was old and stricken in years; and the LORD said unto him, Thou art old and stricken in years, and there remaineth yet very much land to be possessed” (Joshua 13:1).  “Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end” (Proverbs 19:20).

Though Joshua was very bold

And used by God to claim much land,

The years had passed, and he was old,

Yet no retirement was planned.

The Lord declared his age was such,

And yet it was not time to rest,

For still there was yet very much

Remaining land to be possessed!

Retirement was not in view,

Nor should it ever be for us;

Though old, there’s much that we can do.

Retirement?  Ridiculous!

Lord, teach us in our latter end

In strength and weakness, joy and tears,

To labor wisely and depend

On You throughout our fleeting years.
