The
wicked may warn us to flee as a bird,
And
thereby avoid being harmed.
It
seems quite apparent that they haven’t heard:
It’s
they who should now be alarmed!
Of
course they’d be right if the Lord of salvation
Had
somehow abandoned His throne.
If
that were the case there would be no foundation
Or
fortress protecting His own.
But
God is still seated in power above;
He
knows all of those who are His.
His
eye of protection beholds us with love,
And
O, what a comfort this is!
The
fear of mere man is a hazardous snare
That
God tells us how to avoid:
By
fearing the Lord, we will cast all our care
On
Him, as His peace is enjoyed.
The
Lord has declared to the scorner at last
That
there is an end to his scorning:
His judgment is coming, and when it is passed,
The Lord shall be finished with warning.
O
Lord, we have heard that we should not delay
To
flee as a bird to our mountain:
Those
mountains shall fall upon scorners one day,
And
wormwood shall poison their fountain!
We
thank You, O Lord, for Your marvelous grace
That
shelters our souls with protection!
We find in Your fear that we have such a place
That
fears not this world’s rejection.
